TCL’s FFALCON Launches an $88 300Hz Fast IPS Gaming Monitor for Esports Players
TCL’s gaming-focused FFALCON brand has introduced a new budget gaming monitor in China, and it could be one of the most aggressive value options for competitive players. The new FFALCON Thunderobot Q5AD YYDS Edition is priced at 599 yuan, which is roughly $88, yet it delivers features normally found on more expensive esports displays.
The monitor uses a 24.5-inch CSOT Fast IPS panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, making it a practical choice for fast-paced competitive gaming where high frame rates matter more than ultra-high resolution. Its native refresh rate is 280Hz, but it can be overclocked to 300Hz through DisplayPort, giving players smoother motion and lower perceived input delay in supported games.
FFALCON is clearly aiming this model at esports users. The Thunderobot Q5AD YYDS Edition is rated for a 1ms gray-to-gray response time and includes overdrive settings to improve pixel response during intense action. It also features an MPRT-Plus motion blur reduction mode, designed to make fast-moving scenes look sharper during games like shooters, racing titles, and competitive multiplayer matches.
For a low-cost 1080p gaming monitor, the color specifications are surprisingly strong. The panel covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut and 93% of DCI-P3, while also supporting 10-bit color through 8-bit + FRC. FFALCON says the monitor is factory calibrated with a Delta E of less than 2, which should help provide more accurate colors out of the box. It also reaches up to 400 nits of peak brightness and carries HDR400 certification.
The display supports AMD FreeSync Premium and is also compatible with Nvidia G-Sync, helping reduce screen tearing and stutter when paired with supported graphics cards. These adaptive sync features are especially useful at high refresh rates, where consistent frame delivery can make gameplay feel much smoother.
FFALCON has also added a few gaming-oriented extras. A dark scene enhancement feature helps reveal details in shadow-heavy areas, while a dynamic crosshair overlay can assist players in supported scenarios. For longer gaming sessions, the monitor includes hardware-level low blue light filtering and DC dimming to reduce flicker and improve viewing comfort.
The stand uses a compact hexagonal base, which is designed to take up less desk space and leave more room for large mouse movements. This is a smart touch for esports players who use low mouse sensitivity and need a wider area for aiming. However, the stand is basic in terms of ergonomics. It supports tilt adjustment from -5 degrees to 15 degrees, but there is no height adjustment, swivel, or pivot support.
Connectivity is straightforward. The monitor includes one DisplayPort 1.4 input, which is required to reach the maximum 300Hz refresh rate, along with one HDMI 2.0 port that supports up to 240Hz. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack. Monitor settings are handled through a five-way joystick on the rear, which should make menu navigation easier than traditional button controls.
At around $88, the FFALCON Thunderobot Q5AD YYDS Edition stands out as a highly affordable 300Hz gaming monitor with a Fast IPS panel, adaptive sync support, HDR400 certification, and wide color coverage. Its limited stand adjustability and basic port selection are clear trade-offs, but the core gaming specs are impressive for the price.
For now, the monitor has only been announced for the Chinese market. TCL has not confirmed whether the FFALCON Thunderobot Q5AD YYDS Edition will launch globally or what its international pricing might be if it does.
