Xiaomi’s next sub-flagship lineup is almost here, and the spotlight isn’t just on raw power. The Redmi K90 series launches in China on October 23, and the top-tier Redmi K90 Pro Max is set to make serious noise—literally—with a built-in 2.1-channel audio system featuring a dedicated bass speaker.
A first for mainstream smartphones, this setup adds a third, rear-mounted speaker that acts as a subwoofer to handle low frequencies. A well-known Weibo tipster has backed the 2.1 configuration, and promotional images show a circular speaker near the camera array carrying a Bose logo. Instead of the thin, flat output typical of standard stereo phones, expect fuller, deeper sound with real bass presence. For gamers, movie lovers, and music fans, that means more immersive audio without headphones.
The design clue many spotted earlier—a circular grille near the camera—had people guessing whether Redmi simply relocated a speaker. It now appears this is an extra, purpose-built low-frequency driver, confirming a true 2.1 arrangement. That gives the Redmi K90 Pro Max a standout hardware feature in a crowded performance-phone market.
Of course, the internals should keep pace. Reports point to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powering the K90 Pro Max, with performance on par with current flagship-class chips. A capable rear camera system is also expected to round out the package, though specifics remain under wraps.
At the moment, only the Pro Max is confirmed to include the 2.1 audio setup. We still don’t know whether the standard K90 or K90 Pro will gain the same Bose-branded component. There’s hope the Pro variant picks it up—especially since it’s rumored to head to international markets later, potentially under the Poco F8 Ultra name.
Why this matters
– Real bass on a phone: A dedicated low-frequency speaker promises richer, room-filling sound.
– Better immersion: More convincing explosions, engines, and music dynamics for gaming and streaming.
– Hardware differentiation: A genuine 2.1-channel setup gives Redmi a unique selling point against rivals.
– Flagship-class speed: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 aims to deliver top-tier performance alongside the audio upgrade.
What to watch for at launch
– Audio tuning details and supported enhancements
– How the rear subwoofer is balanced with the front speakers
– Battery and thermal management during prolonged gaming or video playback
– Camera specs and whether the audio boost appears on other K90 models
If Xiaomi delivers on the promise of authentic bass without sacrificing battery life or ergonomics, the Redmi K90 Pro Max could redefine what “great smartphone sound” means—right out of your pocket.
