Faye of War rumor heats up as PlayStation fans expect a major God of War reveal
A new God of War rumor is picking up momentum, and this time the spotlight may not be on Kratos or Atreus. Instead, fans believe Sony could be preparing to reveal a Faye-led God of War spinoff, possibly very soon.
The latest wave of speculation began after reliable PlayStation leaker @elesnicho posted a short but attention-grabbing message on X: “Faye of War.” That was enough to send the God of War community into theory mode, especially because the account previously shared accurate information about a PlayStation showcase before it aired.
The timing has made the post even more interesting. A new PlayStation State of Play is rumored to be happening on May 15, though Sony has not officially announced the event. Because of that, many fans now believe the rumored Faye game could appear as a surprise final reveal, the kind of “one more thing” announcement Sony often saves for the end of a presentation.
The idea of a God of War game starring Faye is not new. Previous rumors have claimed that Santa Monica Studio has been working on a new entry in the franchise focused on Kratos’ late wife, Laufey, better known as Faye. In God of War and God of War Ragnarok, Faye plays a crucial role in the story despite not being a traditional playable lead. Her past, her connection to the Giants, and her relationship with Kratos and Atreus have left plenty of room for a standalone adventure.
According to earlier claims from insiders, this rumored project may feel different from the recent Norse-era God of War games. It has been described as more action-focused, while still existing within the same universe. One well-known industry reporter previously suggested that the game could feel almost like a new IP, even though it remains connected to God of War lore.
That detail has fans especially curious. A Faye-led game could explore a side of the franchise that has only been hinted at so far. Players may finally see her life before the events of the 2018 God of War, including her battles, her role among the Giants, and how she became such an important figure in the fate of Kratos and Atreus.
There have also been claims that God of War director Cory Barlog has been involved with this project since development wrapped on the 2018 reboot. If true, that would mean the game has potentially been in some form of development for several years. Barlog previously reacted with visible frustration when rumors about the project surfaced, but he did not directly deny them.
For now, none of this has been confirmed by Sony or Santa Monica Studio. The “Faye of War” post is not an official announcement, and fans should treat the information as a rumor until something is shown publicly.
Still, the signs are difficult to ignore. A proven PlayStation leaker, a heavily rumored State of Play, and months of earlier reports about a Faye-centered God of War project have created the perfect storm of speculation. If Sony does have a new God of War spinoff ready to reveal, a State of Play showcase would be the ideal stage.
If the rumored event happens soon, fans may not have to wait much longer to find out whether Faye is finally stepping into the lead role.
