Fanless Steampunk Gaming PC Cools an RTX 5080 With Surprising Results
Billet Labs has built a striking steampunk-style gaming PC that takes cooling in a very unusual direction. Instead of relying on traditional airflow for the graphics card and processor, the system uses a fanless cooling approach designed to move heat through metal and coolant rather than spinning fans.
The build is based on a Gigabyte Aorus Pro B850 motherboard, paired with 32 GB of RAM, a 2 TB SSD, and a 600 watt power supply. While the main cooling system is designed to run without fans, the power supply itself remains unmodified and still uses its own fan for cooling.
One of the most interesting parts of this custom PC is the way the motherboard is installed. It is mounted onto an 8 millimeter thick aluminum plate, with large thermal pads placed between key components and the metal surface. This setup helps spread heat across the aluminum plate, turning the structure of the build itself into part of the cooling system.
In everyday use, the fanless design performs better than many would expect. When the PC is sitting idle, the coolant temperature stays at around 28 °C, which is impressively low for a system that avoids active cooling on major components.
The real test comes under heavier workloads. When the processor is pushed to full load using Cinebench, the coolant temperature rises to 39 °C after 30 minutes. The CPU itself reaches 90 °C, which is certainly hot, but the system continues to run without performance loss. That means the cooling solution is able to maintain stable operation even when the processor is under serious stress.
Gaming adds another challenge, especially with a powerful graphics card such as the GeForce RTX 5080. When the GPU is placed under load in a demanding title like Cyberpunk 2077, the coolant temperature climbs beyond 55 °C. Performance remains stable during the test, showing that the design can handle gaming workloads, at least in the short term.
However, those higher coolant temperatures raise concerns for long-term use. While the system does not appear to throttle during testing, running at elevated temperatures for extended periods may not be ideal for component lifespan. For a showcase build, the results are impressive, but for daily high-performance gaming, additional cooling refinements may be needed.
Still, this fanless gaming PC proves that creative thermal design can go far beyond standard air coolers and radiators. By combining thick aluminum, thermal pads, liquid cooling, and a bold steampunk aesthetic, Billet Labs has created a custom PC that is both visually unique and technically fascinating.
The project highlights how far experimental PC cooling can be pushed. A nearly silent gaming system with an RTX 5080 is no small achievement, especially one that can keep performance stable under demanding workloads. While it may not yet be the perfect solution for long-term heavy gaming, it is an impressive step toward quieter, more unconventional high-end PC builds.
