Epson has officially expanded the reach of its latest premium home theater projector, with the Epson Lifestudio Grand EH-LS970B 4K ultra short throw model now available in Australia and New Zealand. Positioned as a realistic “TV alternative,” this ultra short throw projector is designed for big-screen viewing in smaller spaces, delivering a cinema-style image without needing a long throw distance across the room.
The EH-LS970B is promoted as a “real 4K” projector, producing 8.3 million pixels on screen using Epson’s 3-chip 3LCD technology. That approach is aimed at delivering strong color brightness and consistent image performance compared with single-chip solutions. Powering the picture is a laser light source rated for up to 4,000 lumens, which should make it easier to watch during the day or in rooms with ambient light. Epson also estimates around 20,000 hours of laser life, helping reduce long-term maintenance compared with lamp-based projectors.
One of the headline features is the ultra short throw design, capable of projecting an image up to 150 inches. With a 0.16 to 0.4 throw ratio and a 1.0 to 2.5 digital zoom range, the projector is built for flexible placement close to the wall—ideal for living rooms where a ceiling mount or long projection distance isn’t practical. For contrast and high dynamic range content, Epson lists a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and support for HDR10+ as well as HLG, targeting improved highlights and shadow detail when watching compatible movies and shows.
For smart TV functionality, the Lifestudio Grand EH-LS970B runs Google TV, opening the door to major streaming apps such as Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+. That all-in-one approach means many buyers won’t need to add a separate streaming stick or set-top box to get started.
Gaming is also part of the pitch. The projector includes auto low latency mode (ALLM) and is rated for around 20 ms input lag, which can help gameplay feel more responsive for console and casual big-screen gaming sessions.
Connectivity covers the basics and then some, with Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on board plus physical ports including HDMI with eARC support, USB-A, and S/PDIF—useful for pairing external audio gear or simplifying a home theater setup. If you’re not using a separate sound system, Epson has included integrated audio: 20W 2.1-channel speakers, along with Dolby Audio and Sound by Bose branding.
In terms of size, the projector measures 341 x 695 x 145 mm (about 13.4 x 27.4 x 5.7 inches), reflecting its living-room-friendly footprint for an ultra short throw unit.
Pricing and availability are now confirmed for the region. The Epson EH-LS970B is available in Australia for AU$6,399 and in New Zealand for NZ$7,499. Epson has also indicated the model is expected to arrive in Europe in April 2026, while North American timing has not yet been announced.
