Intel is making waves with the public availability of its XeSS2 Frame Generation and Low Latency files, signaling a significant advancement in their upscaling technology. This innovation marks an exciting chapter as Intel aims to compete directly with AMD’s FSR 2 and NVIDIA’s DLSS 3. Known as “XeSS2,” this technology promises to enhance user experience, particularly with their upcoming Battlemage “Xe2” GPUs.
Intel’s commitment to delivering frame generation and low-latency options for gamers is now more apparent than ever. While previous announcements were met with anticipation, there hadn’t been much movement until recently. Thanks to Nexus Mods, the DLL files for XeSS-FG and XeSS-LL have been uncovered and made available, demonstrating Intel’s vigorous efforts in this arena.
These files have been uploaded as current plugins, likely stemming from Intel’s initiatives to facilitate XeSS2 support across various gaming titles. However, Intel hasn’t made an official release yet, with the latest update being the SDK 1.3.1 update from five months ago. Currently, the technology is anticipated to be compatible exclusively with Intel Arc GPUs, which aligns with Intel’s goal to surpass the performance of its predecessor, XeSS.
For gamers eagerly awaiting enhanced performance, Intel’s XeSS2 boasts an impressive 3.9x performance boost in Ultra Performance mode at 1440p Ultra settings, particularly evident when using GPUs like the Intel Arc B580. Additionally, the inclusion of Xe-LL and Xe-FG is expected to substantially elevate the gaming experience, providing a compelling alternative to existing upscaling solutions. With support for ten initial games, broader adoption seems imminent.
While the precise launch date remains under wraps, Intel’s ongoing development hints that XeSS2 could be ready by either the end of this year or the first quarter of 2025.
