Dying Light: The Beast Surges Past 107,000 Steam Players as Techland Gifts a Free Spectral Bat

Dying Light: The Beast is off to a ferocious start. Just one day after its September 18 launch, Techland thanked players for a “Very Positive” debut on Steam by dropping a free in-game weapon for everyone: the Spectral Bat. To claim it, simply update your game. The celebration comes as the survival-action spin-off hit an all-time peak of 107,651 concurrent players and climbed to more than 13,500 Steam reviews with about 90% recommending it.

Originally conceived as DLC for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, The Beast evolved into a standalone adventure set in Castor Woods, a Swiss Alps-inspired region that leans into the grounded tension and atmosphere fans loved in the original. It also marks the return of Kyle Crane, now confronting new horrors after years of torment at the hands of the Baron.

The Spectral Bat, splashed with ominous red detailing, is available at no extra cost for all owners on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s a fitting thank-you to a community that has supported Techland through years of updates—spanning the original Dying Light’s Enhanced Edition and ongoing quality-of-life improvements for Dying Light 2.

If you haven’t jumped in yet, Dying Light: The Beast offers up to 40 hours of gameplay filled with side quests, exploration, and high-stakes encounters across a sprawling open world. The Standard Edition is priced at $39.99, and a Deluxe upgrade adds extras such as the Hero of Harran Bundle. A release for last-gen consoles, including PS4 and Xbox One, is planned for late 2025.

With momentum building, the free Spectral Bat is a timely bonus—and a sharp excuse to return to Castor Woods and unleash the Beast.
