DJI Neo 3 Leak Teases a Serious Camera Boost

DJI Neo 3 leak points to a major camera upgrade, smarter tracking, and better obstacle sensing

DJI’s upcoming Neo 3 drone has appeared again in a fresh leak, and this time the details suggest a much bigger upgrade than expected. After earlier images of retail packaging surfaced in September, a new leaked specification image now gives a clearer look at what DJI may be preparing for its next compact drone.

One of the biggest highlights is the camera. The DJI Neo 3 is expected to feature a 1/1.1-inch camera sensor, which would be a noticeable step up from the Neo 2. The leak also mentions 2x lossless zoom, a feature that could make the drone more useful for creators who want closer shots without sacrificing image quality. For a small, lightweight drone aimed at easy aerial filming, this could be a major selling point.

The upgraded sensor may be similar to the one used in DJI’s recent action camera lineup, which would make sense if DJI wants to improve image quality across its compact creator-focused products. If accurate, users can likely expect sharper footage, better dynamic range, and improved low-light performance compared to the previous model.

The DJI Neo 3 is also rumored to bring next-generation SelfieShot support. This feature appears designed for quick, automated shots where the drone can frame the user and capture cinematic footage with minimal input. For vloggers, travelers, and social media creators, this could make the Neo 3 even more attractive as a pocket-friendly flying camera.

Another key upgrade mentioned in the leak is high-speed ActiveTrack. DJI’s subject-tracking technology is already one of its strongest features, and a faster version could allow the Neo 3 to follow moving subjects more confidently. This would be especially useful for filming cycling, running, skating, hiking, or other outdoor activities where smooth tracking is essential.

The leak also claims the DJI Neo 3 will include omnidirectional obstacle sensing. If true, this would be a significant improvement for flight safety. Better obstacle detection could help the drone avoid trees, walls, poles, and other hazards from multiple directions, making it easier for beginners to fly and more reliable for automated shooting modes.

However, these upgrades may come with one trade-off: weight. According to the leaked information, the Neo 3 could be around 28% heavier than the Neo 2. That added weight may be due to the larger camera sensor, improved sensing hardware, or a revised design. It remains to be seen whether the increase will affect portability, flight time, or regulatory classification in certain regions.

Earlier leaks also pointed to DJI preparing a compact remote controller for the Neo 3. Packaging images appeared to show the RC Mini, a smaller controller that previously appeared in China under a similar name. If bundled with the Neo 3, it could give users a more traditional flying experience while keeping the overall setup compact and travel-friendly.

DJI has not officially announced the Neo 3 yet, and there are currently no confirmed launch dates. Still, the appearance of retail packaging and specification material often suggests that a product reveal may not be far away.

If the leaked details are accurate, the DJI Neo 3 could become one of the most interesting compact drones in DJI’s lineup. With a larger camera sensor, 2x lossless zoom, improved tracking, smarter selfie features, and omnidirectional obstacle sensing, it looks positioned as a stronger option for casual flyers and content creators who want high-quality aerial footage without moving to a larger drone.
