DJI looks ready to make a comeback in its popular Air drone lineup, with early signs pointing to a new model called the DJI Air 4. While DJI hasn’t announced anything officially yet, a fresh sighting suggests the next Air-series drone may be closer to launch than many expected.
To understand why this matters, it helps to look at where the Air series currently stands. DJI introduced the Air 3S in October 2024, and it’s been more than a year and a half since that release. That drone stood out thanks to its dual-camera approach, pairing a 1-inch main camera with a 3x optical telephoto lens. That combo gave creators more flexibility in framing and detail without having to fly dangerously close to subjects. Interestingly, DJI is also expected to bring a similar camera strategy to its compact handheld lineup soon, with an upcoming Osmo Pocket model rumored to adopt the same kind of lens pairing.
Now, attention is shifting to what appears to be an early regulatory appearance of the DJI Air 4. A leaker, Igor Bogdanov, shared a screenshot showing the drone listed inside what looks like a Chinese regulatory or compliance-related app. While the source of the screenshot hasn’t been explained, the bigger takeaway is the context: products typically show up in these systems only after a company submits them for approval or certification processes. In other words, DJI may already be taking the steps required before a public release.
One detail that stands out from the listing is the drone’s apparent classification as a sub-250 g model. That weight category is especially important for drone buyers because it can mean fewer restrictions in many regions, making the drone easier to travel with and simpler to fly under local rules. If DJI really is bringing the Air 4 in under 250 grams, it could be aiming for a sweet spot: a lightweight drone that still delivers the imaging power and features people expect from the Air family.
This new sighting also adds weight to earlier chatter. In early 2025, an image allegedly showing a crashed Air 4 prototype circulated, but the situation was murky and details were scarce. A compliance-style appearance makes the Air 4 feel more real and more likely to be moving through the pipeline toward launch.
For now, there’s still no confirmed DJI Air 4 release date, and DJI hasn’t shared official specifications. But if this listing is legitimate, it’s a strong sign that DJI’s next Air drone is progressing behind the scenes—and that a lightweight, travel-friendly Air 4 could be on the horizon.
