Memory Makers Will Only Meet 60% of DRAM Demand Through 2027, Locking In Years of Shortages and Price Pain 1

DDR5 Price Shock Hits Germany as Memory Costs Soar 419% Since July 2025

DDR5 RAM Prices Rise Again in Germany, Making PC Upgrades More Expensive

DDR5 memory prices are continuing to climb, creating a tougher market for anyone planning to upgrade their gaming PC, workstation, or build a new desktop from scratch. After months of inflated pricing driven largely by surging demand from the AI sector, DDR5 RAM still shows little sign of returning to more affordable levels.

Germany had recently seen a slight improvement in DDR5 pricing, but that relief did not last long. According to recent retail price tracking from German stores, DDR5 memory kits became more expensive again in June, pushing the average DDR5 price index from 414% to 419% compared to July 2025 levels.

That means DDR5 RAM remains more than four times higher than it was during the reference period, even though prices are not quite as extreme as the peaks seen earlier in the year.

The latest increase appears to be heavily influenced by one particular memory kit: the 2x 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL28 configuration. This high-performance 64 GB kit jumped by nearly 22% in just one month. Back in July 2025, it was selling for around 208 euros. Earlier this year, it climbed close to 1,000 euros, and current pricing suggests it has returned near that peak again.

Other DDR5 RAM kits also saw movement, although most changes were much smaller. The 2x 32 GB DDR5-6400 CL32 kit recorded a modest increase, while many other configurations only shifted by around 1% to 3% in either direction.

Not every kit became more expensive, however. Some DDR5 memory options actually dropped in price. One example is the 2x 16 GB DDR5-6000 CL28 kit, which fell from 464 euros last month to around 417 euros. That represents a meaningful reduction for buyers looking for a 32 GB DDR5 kit, though prices are still far above historical norms.

The main issue for PC builders is that the overall DDR5 market remains under pressure. AI servers, data centers, and enterprise hardware continue to consume huge amounts of memory supply, leaving consumer RAM prices elevated. As long as demand remains strong and supply stays tight, gamers and desktop users may have to deal with expensive DDR5 memory for longer than expected.

For anyone building a new PC in Germany, the situation is becoming increasingly frustrating. DDR5 is now the standard for modern platforms from AMD and Intel, so avoiding it is not always practical. Users upgrading to newer processors often have no choice but to buy DDR5 memory, which can significantly increase the total cost of a new system.

The biggest concern is where prices may go next. If the current trend continues, the DDR5 price index could move closer to 500% by the end of the year. That would make RAM one of the most painful components to buy for PC enthusiasts, especially those looking for 64 GB or faster low-latency kits.

For now, buyers may need to compare prices carefully, watch for short-term discounts, and consider whether they truly need premium high-speed DDR5 kits. More affordable configurations may still offer strong performance for gaming and everyday workloads, while top-tier DDR5 memory remains unusually expensive.
