GlobalFoundries Revenue Climbs 13% as AI Networking Demand Strengthens Profitability
GlobalFoundries delivered a stronger third quarter as demand tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure helped offset softer smartphone-related business. The contract chipmaker reported revenue of US$1.9 billion for the three months ended September 30, marking a 13% increase from the same period a year earlier.
The results highlight an important shift in GlobalFoundries’ revenue mix. While the company has long served the mobile device market, growth is increasingly being supported by chips used in AI-related networking, data center infrastructure, and high-performance connectivity. As major technology companies continue expanding AI computing capacity, demand for specialized semiconductor components remains a key driver for chip manufacturers.
Profitability also improved during the quarter. GlobalFoundries said its IFRS gross margin widened to 30.1%, showing that the company is not only generating higher sales but also benefiting from a more favorable product mix. AI networking and infrastructure-related chips can help support stronger margins, especially as customers invest in more advanced and reliable semiconductor solutions.
The third-quarter performance suggests GlobalFoundries is gaining momentum from broader industry trends. The global semiconductor market has been undergoing a transition, with artificial intelligence, cloud computing, automotive technology, and industrial applications becoming increasingly important growth areas. For chip foundries, this shift creates opportunities beyond consumer electronics, where demand can be more cyclical.
GlobalFoundries’ latest earnings show how the rise of AI is reshaping the semiconductor supply chain. As data centers require faster networking, improved power efficiency, and greater processing support, foundries that can supply essential chips for these systems are positioned to benefit. The company’s improved revenue and margin performance indicate that AI-related demand is becoming a meaningful contributor to its business.
The results also point to a gradual move away from heavy dependence on smartphones. Mobile remains an important market, but growth in AI infrastructure is helping diversify GlobalFoundries’ customer base and revenue streams. This diversification may provide more stability as end-market demand shifts across the technology sector.
With revenue rising and margins improving, GlobalFoundries’ third quarter reflects the growing importance of AI networking in the semiconductor industry. The company’s performance underscores how demand from data center and infrastructure customers is becoming a powerful force for chipmakers as the AI expansion continues.
