Controversial Marvel Rival Mod Featuring Donald Trump Removed from Nexus Mods

It’s no secret that popular games often spawn unique and sometimes controversial mods. In a recent twist, a Donald Trump-themed mod for the brand-new Marvel Rivals game has found itself booted from the modding scene. This mod creatively transformed Captain America into former President Donald Trump.

The mod was briefly available on Nexus Mods, a go-to hub for mod enthusiasts, before it was unexpectedly taken down. Curiously, other attention-grabbing mods titled “Nude Squirrel” and “Nude Mantis” continue to be accessible on the platform.

While no official reason has been provided for the removal, it might be linked to a policy Nexus Mods rolled out in 2020, which seeks to avoid mods that are politically charged. This policy was introduced as the United States was gearing up for the intensely contested 2020 Presidential election. Nexus Mods declared at the time that this move was to counteract a surge of provocative, troll-like mods that reflected ongoing sociopolitical tensions.

According to the policy, “This ban will apply to all mods uploaded from the 28th of September (of 2020) onwards.” The platform also mentioned that they would reassess this policy after the inauguration of the next U.S. President.

While the intention of the blanket ban was to curb politically-driven content, it remains puzzling how mods like the Marvel Rivals Trump mod, which merely incorporates the likeness of a political figure, fall under this restriction. The Marvel Rivals Donald Trump mod doesn’t appear to carry any overtly political messages, which makes this decision particularly perplexing.

For those still eager to dive into the action, Marvel Rivals is available on Windows PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It seems the intersection of video games and politics continues to be a contentious yet fascinating terrain.
