Consumers shun Intel in Germany as CPU and motherboard sales reportedly hit bottom against AMD at one retailer

In a recent revelation concerning sales of CPUs and motherboards in Germany, Intel appears to be experiencing a tough phase as consumers show a preference for AMD products. A particular German retailer highlighted significant differences in sales volume between the two competitors. In a week’s snapshot from the year 2024, it has been reported that AMD led with over 80% of sales in both processor and mainboard categories, showcasing a robust command over the market.

For Intel, the situation seems grim with reports confirming that sales of mothersboards that support their LGA1700 socket have not been performing well. During the reported week, sales for these particular Intel boards made up only about 13% of the total sales in the motherboard category, which was pinpointed as the lowest share for the company in years. Specifically, only 275 LGA1700 mainboards were sold at an average selling price of €172.

Comparatively, AMD’s sales were predominantly higher. The company sold 1,840 units with an 87% total sales share. These units were split between their AM5 and AM4 sockets, with AM5 being the major contributor with 1,310 units, and AM4 making up the rest with 530 units, and the average selling price of these AMD boards was €161.

In the CPU sector, Intel’s offerings were similarly overshadowed by AMD. Intel CPUs managed to secure only 10.78% of the total sales, translating to 330 units sold at an average price point of €283.

While this data reflects the scenario at one specific retailer, it’s a strong indicator of current market trends, where Intel seems to be struggling to match AMD’s draw in the do-it-yourself (DIY) PC market space.
