When it comes to gaming performance, graphics cards are at the heart of the conversation. Recent benchmark tests comparing the prowess of several laptop and desktop GPUs provide informative insights into the current landscape of gaming hardware.
At 1920×1080 resolution across various quality settings, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, coupled with an i9-13900K CPU in a desktop setup, showcased impressive frames per second (fps) results. It led the pack with 156.6 fps in Performance mode, 134 fps in Balanced AA:FX, and 112.8 fps when dialed up to Maximum Quality AA:FX.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT wasn’t far behind in a similar desktop configuration, rendering games at 135 fps, 119.9 fps, and 102.8 fps in corresponding settings, holding its own with competitive scores.
In the realm of laptops, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, paired with the i9-13900H in the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16, produced remarkable results for a mobile platform, managing 110.4 fps, 94.3 fps, and 79 fps across the three quality benchmarks.
The Razer Blade 16 Mid 23, sported the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU and an i9-13950HX CPU, reached 104.4 fps, 87.6 fps, and 72.2 fps, underlining NVIDIA’s solid performance in the laptop space.
The RTX 4070 Laptop GPU found in the XMG Pro 15 E23, alongside an i9-13900HX, also demonstrated its capability with 75.2 fps, 62.7 fps, and 51.3 fps in the increasing quality settings.
Entry to mid-level laptop gaming can be experienced with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 Laptop GPUs. The Razer Blade 14 Mid 23 with an R9 7940HS CPU delivered 64.1 fps, 52.9 fps, and 43 fps, while the Medion Erazer Scout E20 with an i7-13700H CPU achieved 58.6 fps, 47.2 fps, and 37.7 fps respectively.
Positioned as an alternative to NVIDIA’s offerings, AMD’s Radeon RX 7600S and Radeon 780M, both in the Asus TUF Gaming Advantage A16 with an R9 7940HS CPU, gave a noteworthy contest in the budget category. The RX 7600S attained 54.5 fps in Performance mode and kept steady in the mid-40s across Balanced and Quality settings, while the 780M registered much lower, but still playable frame rates.
These benchmarks provide valuable guidance for users looking to understand how various GPUs stack up against one another in gaming performance, aiding in the purchase decisions of both laptops and desktops for gaming enthusiasts.
