Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is showing no signs of slowing down. Months after launch, Sandfall Interactive’s stylish RPG is still in the spotlight thanks to player rewards and steady updates—and now there’s even bigger news. In a recent interview on the MrMattyPlays YouTube channel, game director Guillaume Broche said the Clair Obscur universe will live on, with more stories planned beyond Expedition 33.
Broche described Clair Obscur as the overarching franchise, noting that Expedition 33 is just one tale within it. He stopped short of revealing specifics, but made it clear this isn’t the end for the series. Sandfall is already at work on its next title, though it’s unknown whether that project will directly follow Expedition 33 or explore a new narrative in the same world.
Don’t expect a DLC in the near term. Broche explained that he prefers to move forward creatively rather than revisit past projects, suggesting the studio’s focus is firmly on building what comes next rather than extending the current game with add-ons.
The momentum makes sense given the reception. Expedition 33 has earned strong acclaim, including a 97% recommendation rating on OpenCritic, positioning the franchise for a promising future.
For fans, that likely means more of what made Expedition 33 stand out—fresh stories set in the Clair Obscur universe and the distinctive vision that put Sandfall Interactive on the map. What shape that takes is still under wraps, but the next chapter is already in motion.
