China’s Smartphone Market in the First Quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, smartphone shipments in China reached an impressive 72.5 million units. Although this marked a slight 7.8% decrease from the previous quarter, it represented a healthy 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Looking ahead, predictions suggest a minor 0.7% dip for the second quarter, keeping shipments close to last year’s levels for the same timeframe.

The top contenders in China’s smartphone market this quarter are Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Honor. Notably, Huawei, Oppo, and Honor each advanced one position in the rankings, while Xiaomi made a significant leap, climbing two spots. Apple, on the other hand, faced a setback, dropping to sixth place. Together, these top five brands now command a combined market share of 83.8%, a slight increase from the previous quarter’s 83.1%.

These shifts highlight the dynamic nature of the smartphone market in China, with local brands increasingly dominating the scene and reflecting shifts in consumer preferences. As the competition heats up, it will be interesting to see how these brands continue to innovate and capture the attention of consumers in one of the largest smartphone markets globally.
