China’s Latest GPU Marvel: Moore Threads MTT S90 Challenges NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with Impressive Gaming Power

The Chinese GPU industry is making impressive progress, with the Moore Threads S90 gaming GPU now revealing performance levels that rival NVIDIA’s mainstream offerings.

Moore Threads’ MTT S90 has surpassed NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 in several tests, thanks to optimized drivers. Historically, Chinese consumer GPUs struggled against Western competition, largely due to subpar hardware and unoptimized performance. However, the surge in AI development has spurred Chinese companies, like Huawei and Lisuan, to push the boundaries in GPU technology. Moore Threads, notably the first to introduce PCIe Gen 5.0 in GPUs, is now proving its capabilities with a powerful gaming GPU.

The MTT S90’s performance was benchmarked alongside the MTT S4000, a workstation-focused GPU with similar architecture. In these tests, the S90 successfully competed with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4060, marking a significant milestone for Moore Threads.

In gaming trials, the MTT S90 showed its prowess in Naraka: Bladepoint, a popular title in China. When tested at 4K ultra-high settings, the S90 achieved an average of 43 FPS, slightly edging out the RTX 4060, which managed 42 FPS. This is a remarkable leap for Moore Threads, as older models struggled to match even the GTX 1050 Ti due to driver issues.

Moore Threads has reportedly made major strides in driver optimization, boosting performance by up to 80% across generations compared to its previous model, the MTT S80. While the MTT S90 is expected to run on a PCIe 5.0 platform, comprehensive specifications remain under wraps. As Chinese GPUs have not been widely reviewed online, these promising advancements should be approached with cautious optimism.
