Chevy Equinox EV Launches as Affordable Alternative to Model Y, Offering Impressive Range

GM has delivered on its promise to introduce a budget-friendly Equinox EV, with the base Equinox LT SUV now the most affordable electric vehicle available in the United States. Priced at just $27,495 with tax credits, the 2025 Equinox LT shatters the $30,000 price barrier. Even without any federal or state incentives, its starting price of $34,995 still makes it a cool $10,000 cheaper than the lowest-priced Model Y, while offering over 300 miles of range—comparable to the Tesla.

Specifically, the front-wheel-drive Equinox LT boasts an impressive 319 miles on the EPA testing cycle, the same range as the Model Y Long Range. It also features a nearly 18-inch display and ambient lighting. Opting for the Convenience Package elevates its price to rival that of the Model Y, but the Equinox LT then includes extras such as ventilated seats, a head-up display, 21-inch wheels, and a hands-free liftgate. This package also offers GM’s Super Cruise self-driving option, which works on compatible roads.

In contrast to Teslas, the Equinox LT includes Android Auto and supports a full range of Google services, including Maps and Play. When comparing dimensions and specs directly, the Chevy Equinox is slightly larger than the Model Y, with a longer wheelbase but a smaller trunk capacity. It’s equipped with a less powerful electric motor and slower DC fast charging, capped at 150 kW.

The Equinox EV is backed by an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty and comes in eight different color options. The burning question remains: How is Chevy able to offer a 300-mile range electric vehicle at such an appealing price point? Is it being sold at cost or with a minimal markup?

The affordability and feature set of the Equinox LT could make it a game-changer in the electric vehicle market, attracting cost-conscious consumers eager to embrace the benefits of electric driving without breaking the bank.
