Starsand Island launches version 1.0 and climbs Steam’s popular new releases chart
Starsand Island has officially launched out of early access, and the cozy anime-style life sim is already making a strong impression. Released in full on August 18, 2026, Seed Sparkle Lab’s island RPG has quickly risen to the top of Steam’s popular new releases list, helped by a limited-time 20% launch discount that drops the price from $39.99 to $31.99.
The full release also arrives across multiple platforms at once, with Starsand Island now available on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2. For a game that began with community support through Kickstarter, the launch is a major milestone. Its crowdfunding campaign exceeded expectations in 2025, tripling its original goal and raising more than $300,000.
Version 1.0 brings several major additions that longtime players have been waiting for. Online multiplayer now supports up to four players, allowing friends to explore, build, and enjoy island life together. The host of the island controls who can visit, while co-op play also includes its own dedicated currency and shop system.
Mod support is another big feature in the full launch. Starsand Island now includes official mod tools through a ModKit, along with Steam Workshop support, giving players more freedom to customize the experience and share creations with the community.
The relationship system has also received a major expansion. Players can now experience new three-heart story arcs and a deeper dating system across the island’s cast of characters. For fans of cozy farming games, life sims, and social RPGs, this update adds more personality and long-term progression to the island experience.
Seasonal content is part of the launch as well. The Autumn Pumpkin Carnival adds a festive touch to the game, giving players another reason to explore the island and take part in limited-time activities. Console players also benefit from improved controls, including mouse support designed to make building and decorating smoother.
Starsand Island’s journey to full release has not been without setbacks. Shortly after its early access debut in February, the game received a wave of suspicious positive reviews. Seed Sparkle Lab denied any involvement and publicly asked whoever was responsible to stop.
In April, the game was temporarily removed from Steam after the developer acknowledged that certain visual elements in a minigame had been used without proper authorization. The title in question was never officially named, though many players believed the issue involved a block-stacking puzzle game. A corrected version was later submitted, and Starsand Island returned to the store. As an apology, all owners received a free outfit set, now listed as the Shining Star DLC at no cost.
Despite those bumps, the overall reception remains strong. Starsand Island currently holds a “Very Positive” rating in English-language reviews, with 88% positive feedback from more than 2,500 players. Across all supported languages, the game has received over 6,500 reviews. Recent reviews are more mixed, sitting at 63% positive from the latest batch, but the full 1.0 launch could help bring renewed attention and feedback.
The game is also easy to run on a wide range of PCs. Minimum requirements include a GTX 650, while an RTX 2060 is recommended for better performance. Players will need around 20 GB of available storage.
For collectors, physical editions of Starsand Island for PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 are scheduled to arrive on November 12.
With cozy island living, anime-inspired visuals, multiplayer support, expanded romance, mod tools, and a growing community, Starsand Island is positioning itself as one of the standout life sim RPG releases of 2026.
