Casio has finally brought its gold full-metal G-Shock square, the GMW-BZ5000GD-9, to the UK, completing the brand’s newest premium square trio. After the silver GMW-BZ5000D-1 and the darker GMW-BZ5000BD-1 with gold accents went on sale in December, the standout all-gold version was the one many buyers were still waiting for. Now it’s officially available for UK customers, priced at £619 through Casio UK and authorised retailers.
This release builds on a lineup that first appeared in Japan and later expanded to other markets, but the UK arrival of the gold model makes the collection feel whole. And it’s not just the colour that makes this watch notable—it also introduces a new display and an updated approach to full-metal shock resistance.
A fresh take on full-metal shock protection
Casio says the design was co-developed with the help of AI, using decades of shock-resistance data to refine the structure. Unlike earlier full-metal squares where the metal bezel completely covered the center case, this new construction connects the bezel and center case at the top and bottom, with a highly resilient resin layer placed between them. That resin is designed to temporarily deform and absorb impact, helping preserve the toughness G-Shock is known for while keeping the premium stainless-steel build. The watch is manufactured in Japan at Yamagata Casio.
New MIP display for clearer, brighter readability
The biggest upgrade on the GMW-BZ5000GD-9 is its Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) LCD. Casio says this high-contrast screen improves legibility with sharper-looking digits and text, a wider viewing angle, and better visibility in bright sunlight—often a pain point for traditional digital displays outdoors.
You can also customize the look more than usual, with eight display styles and four different fonts (including STANDARD and CLASSIC). These can be changed using the watch buttons or through the Casio smartphone app.
Improved solar charging plus time syncing features
To support the higher-definition full-dot display, Casio developed a more efficient solar power system intended to keep the battery topped up even using ambient light. The watch includes Tough Solar power, a power-saving mode, and a low battery alert.
For accurate timekeeping, it supports Multiband 6 radio calibration and Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing. With the app, you can enable automatic time adjustment, access world time options, and use features like Phone Finder.
Key specifications at a glance
The GMW-BZ5000GD-9 measures 49.3 × 43.6 × 13 mm and weighs 172 g. It uses a stainless-steel case and bezel, mineral glass, and a screw-lock case back. The solid stainless-steel bracelet includes a one-touch 3-fold clasp and fits wrists roughly 150–205 mm.
It’s shock resistant with 200-metre water resistance, includes an LED backlight (with auto light and selectable duration), and offers world time across 38 time zones (55 cities plus UTC). Other essentials include a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms (including snooze), hourly signal, and a full auto-calendar to year 2099. Accuracy is rated at ±15 seconds per month without radio or mobile calibration.
Battery life is listed at about six months with normal use after a full charge (assuming no light exposure), or up to 22 months in total darkness with power saving enabled.
For UK buyers who want a premium, full-metal G-Shock square with a bold gold finish—plus a noticeably upgraded display—the GMW-BZ5000GD-9 lands as the flashiest and most feature-forward option in Casio’s current high-end square lineup.
