Casio’s Gundam G-Shock DW-5600 Is a Must-See Limited Edition for Mecha Fans
Casio has introduced a striking new Mobile Suit Gundam-themed G-Shock, and this one feels like far more than a simple collaboration. Based on the iconic G-Shock DW-5600, the limited-edition DW-5600GM26-7DR blends the tough, retro square design fans love with styling inspired by the legendary RX-78-2 Gundam.
Special-edition G-Shock watches are nothing new, but this Gundam model stands out because of how carefully the theme has been executed. Instead of merely adding a logo to an existing watch, Casio has built the design around the visual identity of the original Gundam itself. The result is a collectible timepiece that should appeal to longtime anime fans, Gunpla builders, and anyone who appreciates a bold digital watch with character.
The first thing that catches the eye is the transparent bezel and band. This clear exterior gives the watch a futuristic, mechanical feel while allowing the Gundam-inspired color accents to pop. The familiar blue, red, and yellow tones pay tribute to the RX-78-2’s classic armor design, giving the watch an instantly recognizable Mobile Suit Gundam personality without making it look overly busy.
Casio has also added several smaller details that make the watch feel special. The band features etched panel-line styling, echoing the armor plating seen on the original Gundam. The Earth Federation Space Force emblem appears on the strap, reinforcing the military sci-fi theme. On the case back, collectors will find the Pegasus mark associated with the White Base fleet, adding another thoughtful nod to the franchise.
One of the coolest details is hidden in the backlight. Activate it, and the words “SINCE 1979” appear, celebrating the year Mobile Suit Gundam first aired. It is a simple touch, but for fans of the franchise, it adds a meaningful layer of nostalgia.
The packaging also leans fully into the Gundam theme. The watch comes in a special box styled with Gundam artwork and Earth Federation Space Force branding, giving it the feel of military equipment from the anime universe. For collectors, that kind of presentation can be just as important as the watch itself.
Under the themed exterior, this is still a proper G-Shock. The DW-5600GM26-7DR offers shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, an automatic calendar, 12/24-hour time format, a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 24-hour counter, a multifunction alarm, and an hourly time signal. Casio rates the battery life at approximately five years, making it practical enough for daily wear despite its collectible appeal.
The Mobile Suit Gundam x G-Shock DW-5600GM26-7DR launched in South Korea on June 4 with a price of 220,000 KRW, roughly 144 US dollars. Demand was immediate, and the watch reportedly sold out within about an hour through the official online sales channel.
For now, availability appears to be limited to South Korea, and Casio has not confirmed whether the Gundam G-Shock DW-5600 will receive a wider international release. Given the popularity of both G-Shock watches and Mobile Suit Gundam, a global launch would likely attract strong interest from fans in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and other regions.
With its transparent case, RX-78-2-inspired colors, hidden 1979 tribute, and collectible packaging, this limited-edition Casio G-Shock is one of the more exciting anime watch collaborations in recent memory. For Gundam fans, it is not just another digital watch. It is a wearable tribute to one of the most influential mecha franchises ever created.
