Casio G-Shock x Bait “Yamagata’s Finest” Turns the DW5600 Into a Banana-Inspired Collectible
Casio’s latest G-Shock collaboration with Bait is impossible to miss. The new DW5600 “Yamagata’s Finest” takes one of G-Shock’s most iconic square watch designs and gives it a playful banana-themed makeover, complete with a speckled yellow finish, custom character artwork, and collectible packaging.
The inspiration behind the watch comes from Yamagata Prefecture in Japan, home to Casio’s Yamagata production facility, where many G-Shock watches are made. Bait leans into that origin story by presenting the watch as if it were premium produce fresh from the farm. The banana theme also ties into the idea of perfect timing, since a banana is only at its sweetest for a short moment.
Visually, the watch fully commits to the concept. The strap, keeper, buckle, and case are covered in a ripe yellow color with brown speckles, giving it the look of a banana at peak ripeness. Instead of limiting the design to the case, the pattern continues across the entire band, making the watch feel more complete and intentional.
The DW5600 “Yamagata’s Finest” uses a positive LCD display, giving it a classic dark-on-light look that fits well with the bright exterior. When the backlight is activated, the collaboration’s banana mascot appears across the display. The character, named “Shawty with Freckles,” also appears engraved on the stainless-steel case back, adding another collectible detail for G-Shock fans.
Under the playful design, this is still a dependable G-Shock DW5600. It features 200-meter water resistance, module 3525, an EL backlight, stopwatch, countdown timer, and alarm. In other words, it keeps the rugged everyday utility the DW5600 is known for while adding a bold limited-edition look.
Bait is also giving the release special packaging. The watch comes in a yellow tin styled with “Bait Farms Non-GMO” branding, reinforcing the fruit-market concept. A matching apparel capsule is launching alongside the watch, including a uniform jacket, cap, and T-shirt.
This is not Bait’s first creative take on the G-Shock DW5600. The brand has previously worked on themed releases inspired by car culture, retro technology, and motorsport, making “Yamagata’s Finest” the latest entry in a growing lineup of highly stylized G-Shock collaborations.
A launch event is scheduled at Bait Santa Ana in California on September 29 from 5 PM to 9 PM, featuring music, food, and drinks. The Casio G-Shock x Bait DW5600 “Yamagata’s Finest” will then release at Bait Chapter stores and through Bait’s official online shop on September 30.
Pricing has not yet been announced. However, a previous Bait x G-Shock DW5600 release was priced at $150, which may give collectors a rough idea of what to expect.
