Casio’s A140WE Refreshes Vintage Style with Softer Curves and Subtle Retro Charm

Casio has quietly expanded its beloved Retro watch lineup with the new A140WE series, offering a softer, rounder take on the classic digital design—while keeping the affordable pricing and everyday practicality that made Casio Retro watches so popular in the first place. Set to arrive in three eye-catching color options, the A140WE looks like a modern reinterpretation of a vintage Casio rather than a straight throwback.

What makes the Casio A140WE stand out is its new case shape. Instead of the sharp, rectangular look associated with long-time favorites like the A168 style, the A140WE adopts a more rounded silhouette. The case measures 39 x 36.8 x 10.4 mm, giving it a compact profile that should wear comfortably on a wide range of wrists. Casio describes the design as a blend of retro styling and contemporary trends, and that feels accurate: it still reads “Casio Retro,” but with a calmer, more refined presence.

The case itself is chrome-plated plastic, paired with a steel bracelet that aims well above its price class. The bracelet includes a herringbone-patterned center section and a flat, vertically brushed finish, which adds a surprisingly premium touch for a watch in this bracket. Another detail that elevates the look is the sunray dial, designed to shimmer subtly depending on the viewing angle, adding depth that’s not always expected from an entry-level digital watch.

In terms of features, the Casio A140WE sticks to the proven formula that has kept Casio digital watches relevant for decades. You get a 1/100-second stopwatch (up to 60 minutes), daily alarm, hourly time signal, EL backlight, and support for a 12/24-hour format. It also includes a 7-year battery rating and 30 meters of water resistance, making it a solid daily wear option for commuting, casual use, and light exposure to water.

At launch, three versions are expected:
A140WE-2A in dark blue
A140WE-8A in dark gray
A140WEG-9A in gold tone, featuring a scratch-resistant IP coating

Pricing is listed at 11,000 JPY (around $70), with sales expected to begin within the coming month. For anyone searching for a stylish, budget-friendly retro digital watch—especially one that feels a bit more modern and polished than the usual rectangular classics—the Casio A140WE series looks like a strong new contender.
