Casio has built a reputation for turning limited-edition collaborations into genuine collector moments, teaming up with artists and brands that push G-Shock’s design language in fresh directions. Still, some releases feel more like true art pieces than simple colorway updates—and Casio’s newest partnership with American artist Joshua Vides lands firmly in that category.
After teasing the project on Instagram, Casio and Joshua Vides have officially unveiled two limited-edition G-Shock models: the DW5600JV-7 and the DW6900JV-1. Both watches are wrapped in Vides’ instantly recognizable comic-book-inspired look, using a stark black-and-white palette that channels his “Reality to Idea” concept. The result is a pair of G-Shocks that appear almost hand-sketched, as if a 2D drawing has been pulled off the page and shaped into a real, wearable object.
What makes these releases especially eye-catching is the way the artwork is applied. Casio uses multi-angle printing techniques to create bold, graphic lines that play with perspective and depth. From different angles, the watches keep that “illustration” illusion intact, making them stand out even among other limited-edition G-Shock collaborations.
The DW5600JV-7 leans into high-contrast pop with a crisp, glossy white base and strong black graphics. It’s designed to feel like fresh ink laid onto paper, with a deliberately hand-drawn energy across the case and details. The DW6900JV-1 takes a darker approach: a stealthy matte-black finish accented by sharp white striping that traces the watch’s shape and emphasizes the familiar curves and rugged structure of the 6900 series.
Both models include handwritten-style function labels around the dial, artist-signed case-back engravings, and custom packaging geared toward collectors. There’s also a fun signature touch when you hit the LED backlight: Joshua Vides’ recognizable traffic cone motif illuminates the display.
Even with the artistic makeover, these watches stay true to what makes G-Shock a go-to for everyday durability. Expect the brand’s well-known shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, a multi-function alarm, 1/100-second stopwatch, and a countdown timer—meaning these aren’t just display pieces, but fully capable daily wearers.
Each watch is priced at $180. The limited collection launches first at an exclusive Los Angeles pop-up event on March 14 and 15. After that, it will be released in small quantities on Joshua Vides’ official website starting March 16, followed by a wider U.S. release on March 23 through G-Shock’s website, the Soho Store, and select retailers nationwide.
