Casio is honoring the 50th anniversary of its timepiece manufacturing with the launch of a special limited-edition watch. The “TRN-50” resonates with the historical significance of the brand’s very first wristwatch – the revolutionary “Casiotron” that debuted in November 1974. With only 4,000 units available, the launch date is set for February 29.
The iconic Casiotron marked a milestone in digital watch history by introducing the world’s first automatic calendar function. True to the original design, the TRN-50 will not only reminisce the past but also embrace the latest technology, including radio wave reception, Bluetooth connectivity, and solar power capabilities.
Attention to detail can be seen in the exterior, which stays faithful to the first model, showcasing a high-quality case, band, dark blue dial, and the nostalgic CASIOTRON logo. Even the top surface of the case is ground finished precisely as the original model, with mirror-finished sides.
Functionality-wise, the TRN-50 excels with its STN LCD display for clear visibility, Tough Solar power, and capacity to obtain time signals from six stations globally. The incorporation of a mobile link function via Bluetooth allows the watch to sync accurate time information directly from a smartphone, keeping users up-to-date with changes in time zones and daylight saving adjustments.
In a nod to its heritage, the TRN-50’s caseback is decorated similarly to the original and features an engraved serial number. It also comes in an exclusive, eco-friendly paper package, adding to its appeal as a collector’s item.
Prominent features of the TRN-50 include:
– Water resistance up to 5 atmospheres
– Multi-band radio wave reception covering Japan, the USA, the UK, Germany, and China
– Bluetooth low energy for communication within approximately 2 meters, depending on the environment
– World Time for 39 cities plus UTC, with the capability for smartphone updates
– Stopwatch, timer, and alarm functions
– Battery level indicator and power-saving features
– Full automatic calendar and multiple language day-of-the-week displays
– LED backlight with full auto light and afterglow functions
– Tough Solar charging system
The watch measures 42.7 x 39.1 x 12.3 mm and weighs approximately 111 grams. Proudly made in Japan, the TRN-50 is priced at 63,800 yen (tax included). It offers a blend of tradition and innovation, cementing Casio’s commitment to delivering new value through creative product development and electronic technology.
