In an unexpected yet thrilling revelation at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on July 31, 2025, Capcom unveiled Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, set to hit the Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam in 2026. This third installment in the beloved turn-based RPG series builds on the runaway success of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which dazzled with over a million units sold in its first 10 days and surpassed two million by 2025.
Twisted Reflection presents a captivating blend of vibrant and shadowy landscapes featuring legendary dragon-like creatures—the twin Rathalos. Their arrival sparks a fierce conflict between the kingdoms of Vermeil and Azuria. Players step into the shoes of Azuria’s heir, the sole Rathalos Rider, embarking on a quest to unravel a mysterious “crystal encroachment” endangering their world. Accompanying the protagonist is Elanor, Vermeil’s princess and a political hostage, along with her Monstie, Anjanth. Together, they’ll explore deep secrets surrounding Vermeil’s enigmatic queen.
The announcement has thrilled fans, eager for the return of this beloved series after a four-year break. The Monster Hunter franchise continues to be a juggernaut, boasting global sales of 120 million units as of March 2025. The recent release of Monster Hunter Wilds further cemented its dominance when it became Capcom’s fastest-selling game, shipping 8 million units within its first three days and climbing to 10.58 million by June 30.
However, not all has been smooth sailing. Sales of Monster Hunter Wilds declined to 447,000 units in Q1 2025 due to negative feedback, largely owing to performance issues on PC. Meanwhile, Devil May Cry 5 experienced a resurgence, thanks to its Netflix adaptation, resulting in 1.78 million units sold, pushing overall sales to an impressive 13.36 million.
Despite these challenges, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds holds a place among 2025’s top titles, setting high expectations for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. While fans await an exact release date, Capcom has promised more exciting details and potential amiibo releases in the near future.
