Broadcom-Toppan JV Launches Singapore’s First Advanced FC-BGA Substrate Facility

Advanced Substrate Technologies opens Singapore’s first high-end FC-BGA substrate facility

Advanced Substrate Technologies, a joint venture between Japan’s Toppan Holdings and Broadcom, has officially opened a new manufacturing facility in Singapore, marking a major milestone for the country’s semiconductor industry.

The facility, inaugurated on September 29, 2026, is the first in Singapore capable of producing high-end flip chip ball grid array substrates, commonly known as FC-BGA substrates. These advanced components play a critical role in modern chip packaging, helping connect powerful processors to circuit boards while supporting high performance, speed, and reliability.

The opening strengthens Singapore’s position as a growing hub for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. As demand rises for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, networking equipment, data centers, and next-generation electronics, the need for sophisticated chip packaging materials has become increasingly important.

FC-BGA substrates are essential for chips that require dense interconnections and efficient electrical performance. They are widely used in advanced processors, graphics chips, server components, communication hardware, and other high-end computing applications. By establishing local production capability for these substrates, Advanced Substrate Technologies is helping expand the region’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain.

The partnership between Toppan Holdings and Broadcom combines expertise in substrate technology, semiconductor packaging, and large-scale production. The new Singapore facility is expected to support the growing demand for advanced chip components as industries continue shifting toward more powerful and efficient computing systems.

Singapore has long been known for its strong electronics and semiconductor ecosystem, supported by skilled talent, infrastructure, and close links to global technology supply chains. The launch of this FC-BGA substrate plant adds another important layer to that ecosystem, giving the country a more prominent role in the production of key materials used in cutting-edge chips.

The move also reflects a broader industry trend: semiconductor companies are investing heavily in advanced packaging and substrate technologies as traditional chip scaling becomes more challenging. As chips become more complex, packaging is no longer just a final assembly step. It is now a key factor in performance, power efficiency, and product innovation.

With the new facility now operational, Advanced Substrate Technologies is positioned to serve fast-growing markets that depend on high-end semiconductor solutions. From cloud computing and artificial intelligence to telecommunications and enterprise hardware, demand for reliable FC-BGA substrates is expected to remain strong.

The opening of Singapore’s first high-end FC-BGA substrate manufacturing plant is more than a local achievement. It signals the country’s increasing importance in the global race to build stronger, more resilient, and more advanced semiconductor supply chains.
