Brave has unveiled a dynamic new feature designed to enhance the user experience on its search engine. This innovative addition allows users to engage in an interactive chat mode that handles follow-up questions related to their initial search queries. Brave’s earlier introduction of “Answer with AI” provided concise summaries at the top of search results, offering easy access to information. Now, this feature has been expanded to include a chat interface for further inquiries.
This development sets Brave apart from major search engines like Google. While Google offers “AI Overviews” that are somewhat similar to Brave’s initial AI summaries, Google lacks an interactive chat function for follow-up questions. Typically, Google users must initiate a completely new search to delve deeper into a topic.
For example, a search for “Christopher Nolan films” on Brave Search will generate an AI-crafted summary, including insights into Nolan’s career and a list of his notable works. From today onwards, users will also see an inviting chat bar beneath this summary, encouraging them to “Ask a follow-up question.”
If you pose an additional question, such as “Which actors appear most in his films?”, the AI chatbot will provide a list of frequent collaborators with Nolan. This interactive element ensures a seamless transition into a chat-based search experience, supplying sources for each response to maintain transparency.
This new feature is powered by a blend of open-source and proprietary large language models (LLMs). The aim is to strike a balance between traditional search capabilities – such as retrieving links and images – and the conversational exploration offered by AI chatbots. By merging these functionalities, Brave enhances both depth and usability in search experiences.
Moreover, Brave emphasizes that privacy and security are paramount. User interactions with the “Answer with AI” tool are neither stored nor used to build user profiles, ensuring confidential searches.
Brave Search is making waves with more than 36 million queries processed daily, and the “Answer with AI” feature accounting for over 11 million of those responses each day. This latest feature promises to further solidify Brave’s positioning as a competitive and innovative player in the search engine landscape.
