Brave is rolling out a new addition to its AI search toolkit called Ask Brave, designed to deliver detailed, context-rich answers based on your query. It sits alongside the existing AI Answers feature, which already serves more than 15 million summarized responses every day, and gives you a deeper, more conversational way to explore the web.
You don’t need to switch modes or change settings to try it. Brave Search detects when your query calls for a longer, research-style response and offers Ask Brave automatically. The experience blends search with chat, so you can review an initial answer and then refine it with follow-up questions, request a different format, or dig deeper with extended context.
Getting started is simple:
– Tap the Ask button next to the Brave Search box.
– Enter a regular search, then switch to the Ask tab on the results page.
– If Brave Search is your default, add ?? to your query to jump straight into Ask Brave.
Ask Brave is built to deliver more than just text. Answers can include timely context like videos, news, products, businesses, and shopping results, presented when they’re most relevant. The format is closer to a report or briefing—similar to what you might see from ChatGPT or Perplexity—complete with references and visual elements. From there, you can keep the conversation going, ask for comparisons, or request a concise summary.
Under the hood, Brave uses its own API to ground results and boost accuracy, and applies deep research for certain queries. The company positions this as a powerful combination of a real search index with large language models, enabling richer answers without dropping the critical signals search provides.
Privacy remains a core selling point. Brave says chats are encrypted and automatically deleted after 24 hours of inactivity, reinforcing the product’s pitch as a private, secure alternative for AI-driven search and Q&A.
AI-powered answers are rapidly becoming a standard across search experiences, and Brave’s approach aims to stand out with a mix of long-form responses, an integrated chat mode, and a strong privacy posture. If you’re curious, try a complex query, follow up with clarifying questions, and see how Ask Brave adapts to deliver the depth you need.
