Borderlands 4 Hits Gold Status Before September 12 Launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Fans of the Borderlands series have something exciting to look forward to: 2K Games and Gearbox Software have confirmed the release date for Borderlands 4, set to launch on September 12 for the PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. However, Nintendo Switch 2 users will need to exercise a bit more patience, as they can expect the game to arrive on October 3.

The announcement was made with enthusiasm on social media, celebrating a significant milestone with the game officially going “gold.” This suggests a strong confidence that Borderlands 4 will stick to its planned release schedule, with preorders having begun back in June.

The release date was initially shifted earlier from September 23 to avoid overlap with other major titles, even though Gearbox’s CEO Randy Pitchford clarified that games like Grand Theft Auto VI, now delayed until May 2026, weren’t a factor.

In an interesting development over the summer, Pitchford revealed the expansive new map, Kairos, which boasts an open-world design much larger than its predecessor. This enhancement does come with a hefty file size, requiring 100 GB of space on PC.

The game drew some early backlash with its initial $80 price point. However, after some community uproar, the price was adjusted to $69.99 for the Standard Edition. There are also more premium options available, including the Deluxe Edition at $99.99 and the Super Deluxe at $149.99, which offer additional content like the Bounty Pack and more story missions.

The Borderlands series boasts impressive sales, with nearly 93 million units sold globally. Borderlands 3 set records as 2K’s fastest-selling title, topping 22 million units and selling 1.1 million copies in just the first week. With Borderlands 4 aiming to deliver innovative gameplay features like an open-world experience and adjustable difficulty settings for co-op play, it remains to be seen if it will capture the same success and fan adoration.

As anticipation builds, gamers are eager to see if this new chapter will deliver on the franchise’s famed charm and excitement.
