Battlefield 6 has been out since October, but one complaint keeps resurfacing among players: the map selection still feels too thin, especially for those who prefer large, open battlefields in popular modes like Conquest and Escalation. That frustration flared up again at the end of December after streamer EndersFPS posted on X about what he believes is one of the game’s biggest missed opportunities so far.
In his December 30 post, EndersFPS argued that Battlefield 6 is sitting on a “goldmine” of unused maps inside Battlefield Portal. He pointed to remade fan favorites such as Grand Bazaar and Ziba Tower as examples of content that already exists but barely gets played. His main point wasn’t that the community lacks creativity—quite the opposite. The problem, he says, is that much of this content is effectively hidden, making the wasted potential feel “astronomical.”
Portal mode has continued to produce impressive community-made experiences, including reimagined classic maps and inventive reuses of areas from the game’s battle royale offering, REDSEC. Yet despite the steady output of quality creations, many players feel Portal still isn’t doing the job it could be doing for the wider Battlefield 6 audience. If casual players don’t go out of their way to hunt down custom servers, dig through menus, or use specific map codes, they may never see the best of what Portal offers.
Accessibility isn’t the only sticking point. Progression is another major reason many players avoid Portal, even when the content looks great. XP gain is typically reduced compared to official playlists, a system designed to discourage farming. But for regular players who simply want to enjoy more maps while still leveling up at a reasonable pace, the slower progression can make Portal feel like a detour rather than a true alternative.
That disconnect has fueled a growing chorus of suggestions from the community. Players have repeatedly asked for curated Portal playlists placed directly in the main menu so the best community maps are easy to find and quick to jump into. Others want the XP rules adjusted so normal play in Portal feels rewarding without opening the door to exploits. Another popular request is to bring standout Portal maps into the regular seasonal rotation, letting the broader player base enjoy them without needing to search for custom experiences.
The reaction to EndersFPS’ comments makes one thing clear: this is no longer a minor gripe. Many players believe Battlefield 6 already has the building blocks for a much stronger map lineup, but they’re frustrated that the game isn’t making better use of them. Portal could be the answer to the ongoing map shortage, but until it becomes easier to access and more rewarding to play, a lot of fans feel that a huge amount of content is being left on the table—and patience is starting to run out.
