Asus is back with an updated Zenbook A14, and it’s built for people who want a truly travel-friendly Windows laptop without sacrificing serious speed. With a weight that still stays under 1 kg, a 14-inch OLED display, and battery life that can comfortably last through a full day, the refreshed Zenbook A14 looks like one of the most compelling lightweight laptops you can actually live on.
The big upgrade is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Compared to the previous version of the Zenbook A14, it delivers a major performance jump, and in CPU performance it even outpaces many AMD and Intel alternatives. Apple’s latest M5 chip still holds an advantage in single-core performance, but the Zenbook A14 remains impressively fast overall—especially for something this light.
Another standout is how quiet it can be. In Whisper mode, the laptop delivers plenty of performance while staying silent or extremely quiet in real-world use, with noise levels topping out around 28 dB(A). That’s not quite the same as a passively cooled MacBook Air, but for a Windows ultraportable that aims to balance power and comfort, it’s among the best options available. Push the laptop to maximum performance, though, and the fans can get noticeably loud—still, the level of performance you’re getting in such a featherweight 14-inch machine is hard to match.
Portability is clearly the Zenbook A14’s calling card. Keeping a 14-inch laptop below 1 kg is impressive on its own, and it makes the device an easy fit for hand luggage, backpacks, and daily commutes. Even compared with the 13-inch MacBook Air—which has a smaller overall footprint—the Zenbook A14 takes the win on weight, coming in roughly 230 grams lighter.
The display is another key selling point. Asus uses an OLED panel with Full HD resolution, and while it isn’t higher-resolution, it still delivers strong image quality thanks to OLED’s contrast and color performance. One limitation is refresh rate: it’s a 60 Hz panel, and so are its main rivals, which may disappoint anyone hoping for smoother scrolling or higher-refresh motion.
Battery life, however, is where this laptop really strengthens its case as a go-anywhere machine. In a Wi-Fi test at 150 nits, it reaches around 16 hours, and even at maximum brightness it still manages almost 11 hours. That’s the kind of endurance that makes long flights, meetings, and full workdays far less stressful—especially when you’d rather leave the charger in your bag.
Pricing also adds to the appeal. A configuration with the faster Snapdragon X2 Elite and 32 GB of RAM is listed at around €1500, undercutting a similarly equipped MacBook Air 13 with 32 GB RAM, which carries a much higher recommended price.
For anyone searching for a lightweight 14-inch OLED laptop with long battery life, strong performance, and quiet operation in everyday use, the refreshed Asus Zenbook A14 is shaping up to be a standout choice—particularly if you want a powerful ultraportable Windows laptop that doesn’t feel like a compromise.
