Asus Unveils ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2: A 4K 162Hz Gaming Monitor with 485Hz Dual-Mode Speed and USB-C Connectivity

Asus is getting ready to roll out a new dual-mode gaming monitor designed to cover both competitive play and everyday productivity on one screen: the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2, also referred to as the XG27UCGR. First revealed during CES 2026, the display has now appeared on Asus’ own product pages—typically a sign that a launch is close, even though final pricing and a release date haven’t been shared yet.

The big selling point is flexibility. In its native mode, the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 runs at 4K resolution with a 162 Hz refresh rate, which is aimed at delivering sharp visuals without sacrificing smooth motion. When you want maximum speed for esports-style titles, the monitor can switch to a 1080p high-refresh mode that reaches up to 485 Hz. That’s a substantial jump compared to the previous generation’s dual-mode setup, making the Gen2 version much more appealing for players who bounce between cinematic single-player games and fast competitive shooters.

Asus pairs those refresh rates with a Fast IPS panel and a response time listed at 0.3 ms, plus variable refresh rate support to keep gameplay smooth and reduce screen tearing. Both FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatibility are included, which is important for PC gamers running a wide range of GPUs.

On the image quality side, this monitor focuses on speed rather than advanced backlighting. There’s no mini-LED backlight or local dimming, so contrast is rated at 1300:1. HDR brightness is listed up to 600 nits at peak and it carries a DisplayHDR 400 certification. Color coverage should be strong for a gaming display, with 95% DCI-P3 and 130% sRGB coverage, which can help games look more vibrant and also makes the screen more suitable for content creation tasks where richer color matters.

Asus also includes quality-of-life features aimed at daily use: an anti-glare coating, built-in 4K upscaling via Asus Smart Pixel technology, and TÜV certifications for Flicker-Free and Low Blue Light to reduce eye strain during longer sessions.

Connectivity is set up for both PCs and modern consoles. You get DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 (useful for 4K at 120 Hz on supported consoles), USB-C, and a headphone jack. One drawback is that the USB-C port only delivers 15W of power, which won’t be enough to meaningfully charge most laptops—so it’s better viewed as a convenience input than a true one-cable docking solution.

Ergonomics look solid, with a fully adjustable stand offering tilt, height adjustment, swivel, and pivot, making it easier to dial in a comfortable setup whether you’re gaming, working, or doing a mix of both.

As for pricing, Asus hasn’t confirmed anything yet. However, based on where similar dual-mode models sit in the lineup—and considering a related 5K dual-mode option is priced significantly higher—the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 is expected to land somewhere in the mid-to-upper gaming monitor range, potentially around $499 to $699. That said, the older XG27UCG has been selling for much less recently, so Asus’ final pricing will be a key detail for buyers deciding whether the Gen2’s massive 1080p 485 Hz mode is worth the upgrade.

With its combination of 4K clarity, high refresh rates, and a blisteringly fast dual-mode option, the Asus ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 is shaping up to be a strong choice for gamers who want one monitor that can handle both stunning visuals and ultra-competitive performance—without needing a second display just for esports.
