Asus ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro Debuts as the First Wi-Fi 8 Gaming Router With Up to 30Gbps Speeds

Asus has pushed home networking into its next major era with the reveal of the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro at Computex 2026. Marketed as the world’s first gaming router built around Wi-Fi 8 technology, the new router is designed for users who want extreme wireless performance, lower latency, and a network setup ready for the future of connected devices.

The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro is based on the upcoming IEEE 802.11bn standard, better known as Wi-Fi 8. While Wi-Fi 7 is still rolling out across premium routers, smartphones, laptops, and gaming devices, Asus is already looking ahead with hardware that targets the next generation of wireless connectivity.

The headline feature is a theoretical maximum speed of up to 30Gbps. That figure places the GT-BN98 Pro far beyond the needs of most current home networks, but raw speed is only part of the story. Wi-Fi 8 is expected to focus heavily on ultra-high reliability, improved latency, and smarter coordination between multiple access points. For gamers, streamers, smart homes, and households packed with connected devices, those improvements could matter just as much as top-end bandwidth.

The router uses a quad-band design and supports Multi-AP coordination, a technology aimed at making wireless networks more stable and efficient when several access points are working together. Instead of simply chasing higher peak speeds, the goal is to create a network that handles congestion better, maintains stronger connections, and delivers smoother performance across more devices.

As expected from a premium ROG gaming router, the GT-BN98 Pro is also built for demanding performance. However, there is an important catch. Wi-Fi 8 is still in development, and the final IEEE 802.11bn standard is not expected to be completed until 2028. That means the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro is more of a future-ready showcase than an immediate must-have upgrade for most users.

At the moment, consumer devices such as phones, tablets, laptops, handheld gaming systems, and smart home products are not built to take full advantage of Wi-Fi 8. If used today, those devices would connect using older standards such as Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, or Wi-Fi 7, depending on their hardware. As a result, buyers should not expect instant Wi-Fi 8-level speed or reliability gains with existing devices.

Still, the announcement is significant. The Asus ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro gives an early look at where gaming routers and home networking are heading. Faster speeds, smarter multi-router coordination, better reliability, and reduced latency are likely to become major selling points as Wi-Fi 8 moves closer to official release.

Asus has not yet confirmed the price or launch date for the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro. For now, it stands as one of the most ambitious gaming routers announced so far and a clear signal that the next wireless generation is already on the horizon.
