Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gets Its Final Update Before Month’s End

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Final Update Adds Black Tides Quest, Domains Endgame Mode, and New Animus Content

Ubisoft is preparing to roll out the final update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, bringing one last major batch of content to players across supported platforms. The update arrives on June 16 and introduces a new free story quest, fresh crossover projects, a challenging endgame activity, and additional Animus content designed to keep players busy after completing the main campaign.

The headline addition is Black Tides, a free story quest that brings a new danger to Japan. The mission centers on two elite Templars known as the Black Cross, who arrive with orders to hunt down Naoe and Yasuke after the chaos they have caused. However, as Assassin’s Creed fans know, the Templar Order rarely acts with only one goal in mind. These new enemies may be searching for something far more dangerous, and it will be up to both protagonists to stop them before their plans unfold.

To access the Black Tides quest, players must complete Naoe and Yasuke’s main story. They will also need to finish the post-launch quests A Critical Encounter and A Puzzlement. This makes Black Tides a late-game story addition aimed at players who have already explored much of what Assassin’s Creed Shadows has to offer.

The update also introduces two new crossover projects through the Animus HUB: Riptides and Undertow. These projects allow players to unlock themed outfits, weapons, trinkets, and other rewards. Progress is earned by completing Anomalies, similar to previous Animus HUB activities.

These rewards are tied to both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, giving fans a bridge between the two experiences ahead of Black Flag Resynced’s July release. However, the Riptides and Undertow crossover content will not be available on Nintendo Switch 2, since Black Flag Resynced is not planned for Nintendo’s platform.

For players looking for tougher challenges, the biggest gameplay addition may be Domains, a new endgame feature built around combat mastery, survival, and RPG build crafting. Domains are unlocked once players reach level 30 and offer five new gameplay simulations across 10 challenge levels.

Within the story, these simulations are created by MOD, an Assassin hacker who designed Domains to help Dark Animus users sharpen their skills. Each Domain pushes players to experiment with builds, weapons, armor, and abilities. As difficulty increases, more gameplay modifiers are added, forcing players to rethink their usual strategies. A loadout that works well in one Domain may fail in another, making preparation and adaptation essential.

Domains also come with their own exclusive progression system. MOD has a dedicated shop, a unique in-game currency, and a progression tree connected to the new challenges. Players can earn endgame gear sets, powerful engravings, weapons, armor, trinkets, and remixed outfits. Some rewards are designed to be recognizable to longtime Animus users, offering a nostalgic bonus for dedicated Assassin’s Creed fans.

Ubisoft has emphasized that Domain rewards are exclusive to this activity. They will not appear in the in-game store or exchange, making them purely challenge-based unlocks. Players who manage to clear the hardest levels may also discover secret rewards, giving completionists another reason to test their strongest builds.

The update also adds a new Animus Rift called Horizon. This new Rift continues the mysterious Animus storyline and brings new information from the Eagle about the Guide. To access Horizon, players must first complete the two previous Animus Rifts.

Alongside the new quests and activities, the final update includes quality-of-life improvements for the Animus HUB. Ubisoft is adjusting how HUB features are accessed from the main menu so they better match how players use them during gameplay. The System menu will now be accessible only through the Shadows’ Memory page.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched in March 2025 and is available on Windows PC through Steam, Ubisoft Store, and Epic Games Store, as well as Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Amazon Luna.

With Black Tides, Domains, Horizon, and new crossover rewards, this final Assassin’s Creed Shadows update gives players a strong reason to return to feudal Japan. Whether you are chasing new story content, testing high-level builds, or unlocking exclusive gear, the June update looks set to deliver a packed farewell for Naoe and Yasuke’s journey.
