Assassin’s Creed Origins still has the power to dazzle. First released in 2017 by Ubisoft Montreal, the series’ return to ancient Egypt remains one of the franchise’s standout adventures, and a new graphics showcase proves just how stunning it can look on modern hardware.
In a recent video, Digital Dreams pushes the game to breathtaking heights using an RTX 5090, 8K resolution, and ray-traced effects. From the opening moments, lighting and shadows feel strikingly lifelike, casting nuanced gradients across dunes, temples, and city streets. Textures appear sharper and richer throughout, revealing intricate details in stonework around the Sphinx, weathered surfaces on monuments, and the weave and metallic sheen of Bayek’s armor. Water receives a dramatic upgrade as well, reflecting sunlight with convincing depth and motion that closely mimics real waves and ripples. NPCs benefit from the extra fidelity too, with more noticeable detail and realism across clothing and materials.
Not everything is perfect out of the box. Some viewers may find the desert lighting a bit too bright, especially on white or sun-bleached surfaces. That can be addressed with a few tweaks—adjusting brightness, gamma, or tone mapping helps dial in a more comfortable presentation without sacrificing the dramatic look that high-end lighting provides.
Reproducing this showcase does require serious horsepower. To get similarly spectacular visuals, you’ll want a configuration in the same league as the one used in the video. If your setup is more modest, you’re not out of luck—there are community-made mods and presets tailored for lower-spec systems that still enhance textures, lighting, and color grading. Dropping the target resolution from 8K to 4K or 1440p and balancing settings can also deliver a sharp, cinematic experience while maintaining smooth performance.
Eight years on, Assassin’s Creed Origins proves its art direction is timeless. With today’s top-tier GPUs and smart visual tuning, Bayek’s journey across ancient Egypt doesn’t just hold up—it looks extraordinary.
