Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced could still be headed to Nintendo Switch 2, despite earlier signs suggesting the game would skip the platform.
Ubisoft has already brought several major releases to Nintendo’s new handheld, so many fans were surprised when the publisher appeared to rule out a Switch 2 version of its refreshed pirate adventure. Now, fresh speculation has reignited hope that Nintendo players may eventually get their chance to sail the Caribbean.
The latest rumor began after Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly shared what appeared to be box art for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced on social media. The post did not include an explanation, release window, or platform confirmation, which left fans trying to decode its meaning. Because the insider’s past claims have been mixed, the post is being treated as an interesting tease rather than solid confirmation.
What makes the situation more confusing is that Ubisoft recently suggested the game was not planned for Nintendo hardware. A free update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows included content tied to Black Flag Resynced, but the publisher noted that Switch 2 owners would not receive those items because the remake was “not releasing for Nintendo.”
That statement seemed clear at the time, especially since Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC without a Switch 2 version. However, plans can change, and publishers sometimes delay Nintendo ports to allow extra time for optimization.
A Switch 2 release would likely require careful technical adjustments. Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws already needed significant tuning to reach a stable 30 frames per second on the handheld. Black Flag Resynced may be smaller in scope than some modern open-world games, but its upgraded engine, improved lighting, enhanced water effects, and richer visuals could still place heavy demands on the system.
Even so, a Switch 2 version is not impossible. Developers have shown that smart compromises can preserve image quality while improving performance on portable hardware. Reduced visual settings, adjusted lighting effects, or lower resolution targets could help make the game run smoothly without stripping away the atmosphere that makes Black Flag so memorable.
There is also a strong business reason for Ubisoft to reconsider. The publisher has faced financial pressure, and the Switch 2 has already proven useful for expanding the reach of major franchises. Ubisoft previously indicated that the Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows helped the series perform better than expected during a recent quarter. With fewer major blockbuster releases expected in the near future, bringing a well-known Assassin’s Creed title to another popular platform could be an attractive way to generate additional sales.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise, thanks to its naval combat, pirate setting, exploration, and charismatic lead character Edward Kenway. A modernized version on Switch 2 would likely appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers who prefer handheld play.
For now, the rumored Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced Switch 2 port should be treated with caution. There has been no official announcement, and the recent tease does not confirm anything on its own. Still, with strong interest from Nintendo fans, promising sales potential, and Ubisoft’s growing support for the platform, the possibility of a Switch 2 version no longer feels out of reach.
