Applied Materials Unveils Decade-Long India Investment Push Ahead of SEMICON India

Applied Materials to Invest INR 36 Billion in Karnataka, Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Ambitions

Applied Materials, a leading US-based semiconductor equipment manufacturer, is set to invest INR 36 billion, approximately US$375 million, in Karnataka over the next 10 years. The investment marks another major step in India’s push to become a stronger player in the global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil announced the development on September 15, 2026, highlighting the state’s growing importance as a destination for advanced technology investment. The project will be established in the Bengaluru Signature Business Park area, a strategic location that is expected to support high-value innovation, manufacturing, and research-related activities.

The long-term investment plan is expected to create around 1,000 jobs, offering new opportunities for engineers, technicians, and skilled professionals in the semiconductor sector. Beyond direct employment, the project could also support local suppliers, technology service providers, and allied industries connected to chip manufacturing and semiconductor equipment.

Applied Materials’ decision to expand in Karnataka reflects Bengaluru’s continued strength as one of India’s most important technology hubs. The city already has a deep talent pool, strong research institutions, and a mature ecosystem for electronics, software, and engineering services. With semiconductor demand rising globally, investments like this could help India build more capability in a sector that is critical for smartphones, electric vehicles, data centers, artificial intelligence, defense systems, and next-generation electronics.

Karnataka has been working to attract more high-tech manufacturing and semiconductor-related projects as India seeks to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen domestic production. The arrival of a major global semiconductor equipment company adds momentum to that strategy and may encourage further investment from other international technology firms.

The Bengaluru Signature Business Park project is expected to play a key role in supporting Applied Materials’ future operations in India. While the investment will be spread over a decade, its impact could be long-lasting, especially as the country aims to position itself as a global hub for semiconductor design, equipment support, and advanced manufacturing.

This investment is not just a boost for Karnataka; it is also a positive signal for India’s semiconductor roadmap. As global supply chains continue to evolve, India’s ability to attract major technology investments will be crucial. Applied Materials’ INR 36 billion commitment shows growing confidence in the country’s talent, infrastructure, and long-term potential in the semiconductor industry.
