Apple’s Vision Pro Weight Comparable to a 12.9-inch iPad Pro

The eagerly anticipated details of the Apple Vision Pro’s weight have finally been disclosed, following its official announcement on Apple’s website. The tech giant has indicated that its latest headset weighs nearly as much as its 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

During Apple’s Vision Pro live event, various undisclosed features came to light, with the weight of the device capturing significant attention. Media outlets, including The Verge and Engadget, previously raised concerns about potential discomfort associated with the product’s heaviness after brief periods of use.

Addressing these points, Apple has stated that the Vision Pro weighs between 1.325 pounds (601 grams) and 1.43 pounds (648.6 grams), depending on the chosen configuration. The higher end of this weight spectrum is in close proximity to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is around 1.51 pounds (684 grams). Carrying a weight akin to an iPad Pro on one’s head could understandably lead to user fatigue.

Apple had initially intended to incorporate the Vision Pro’s battery within the headset, however, design modifications were necessary due to the bulk. The battery pack alone has been confirmed to weigh about 0.77 pounds (353 grams). Despite such design sacrifices, Apple has made an effort to enhance user comfort by including an optional double loop headstrap with each Vision Pro.

However, weight isn’t the only concern. At launch, the Vision Pro is set to have a sparse selection of spatially optimized apps, especially from Apple itself. In contrast to the roughly 40 optimized tablet apps that come with Apple’s iPads, the Vision Pro will arrive with just 15 spatially optimized apps. This limitation might also affect initial usage satisfaction.

As for availability, customers can expect to receive their devices starting from February 2nd. In the meantime, for those looking into immersive headset experiences, the Meta Quest 3 bundled with Asgard’s Wrath is available for purchase on Amazon, with prices beginning at $499.

Engaging with the Apple Vision Pro may indeed feel like having a 12.9-inch iPad attached to your face—a significant consideration for would-be purchasers to factor in.
