Apple’s Siri AI Arrives With iOS 27, But EU iPhone Users Must Wait
Apple has officially rolled out iOS 27, alongside iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. The biggest talking point in this year’s software lineup is Siri AI, a redesigned and more capable version of Apple’s voice assistant.
But there is an important catch: installing iOS 27 does not automatically unlock the new Siri AI experience.
Apple has confirmed that Siri AI will have limited availability at launch, especially for users in the European Union and China. While many iOS 27 features are arriving as expected, the upgraded assistant is not yet ready for everyone.
Siri AI is not launching on iPhone in the EU
Apple’s availability notes make the situation clear. In the European Union, Siri AI will initially be available only on Mac and Apple Vision Pro, and only when the device is set to a supported language.
For now, that supported language is English.
That means iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch users in the EU will continue using the older version of Siri after updating to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or watchOS 27. Apple has not provided a launch date for Siri AI on those devices in the region.
China is also excluded from the initial rollout. Apple says it is still working through local regulatory requirements before bringing Siri AI to users there.
The rest of iOS 27 still arrives in Europe
Although Siri AI is restricted, the rest of the iOS 27 update is still available to EU users. That includes several major improvements across Apple’s software ecosystem.
Users can access the redesigned Screen Time tools, expanded parental controls, the new Liquid Glass slider, faster app launches, Image Playground, and updated photo editing features.
Apple Intelligence features also continue to support multiple languages, including German, French, Italian, and several others. The limitation applies specifically to the new Siri AI assistant, not to Apple Intelligence as a whole.
Mac users in the EU can try Siri AI, but only in English
There is one workaround for users in the European Union. Mac and Apple Vision Pro owners can access Siri AI if their device is set to a supported language.
At launch, that means English only.
Apple says more languages are coming later, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. German is not included in that first expansion list.
So, for now, an EU user who wants to try Siri AI must use a compatible Mac or Apple Vision Pro, switch the system language to English, and interact with Siri AI in English.
Siri AI requires a waitlist outside the EU
Even outside restricted regions, Siri AI is not instantly available after installing iOS 27. Apple is launching the assistant as a beta feature, and users must join a waitlist before gaining access.
The option appears in Settings under Siri as “Try Siri AI (beta).” After joining, Apple’s servers provide an estimated wait time. That estimate can change depending on demand and availability.
During beta testing, some users reportedly waited up to a week before getting access. Apple appears to be managing the rollout gradually to control server load and refine the experience.
Not every Apple device supports Siri AI
Apple is also limiting Siri AI to newer hardware. According to Apple’s compatibility details, Siri AI works on iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
For Mac users, the requirement is any Mac powered by an M1 chip or newer.
Apple also notes that the Siri app is not available for users under 13. On Apple Watch, Siri AI depends on the paired iPhone, which means the same regional restrictions apply. If the paired iPhone is in the EU and not eligible for Siri AI, the watch will not get the upgraded assistant either.
CarPlay is not affected by this limitation.
Siri AI launches with daily usage limits
Another important detail is that Siri AI will have daily usage limits from the beginning. Apple says features that rely on its server-side AI models may be capped based on several factors.
These include request complexity, system demand, feature type, usage policies, and other conditions. Apple has not revealed the exact daily limit for Siri AI.
The company also says expanded access to some server-based AI features will be available for a fee in the future. That suggests Apple may eventually introduce paid tiers or premium access for heavier AI usage.
For now, Siri AI is arriving as a limited beta with controlled access, device requirements, language restrictions, and regional exclusions.
What this means for iPhone users
For iPhone owners in the European Union, iOS 27 brings plenty of new features, but not the upgraded Siri AI experience. They will continue using the existing Siri while Apple works through the region’s launch requirements.
Users outside the EU still need to join a waitlist and have a compatible device before they can try Siri AI. Even then, daily limits may apply.
Apple’s new assistant is one of the most anticipated parts of iOS 27, but its launch is more gradual than many users may have expected. For now, Siri AI is available only to select users, in select regions, on select devices, and mostly in English.
