iOS 27 leak reveals a redesigned Siri, smarter Apple Intelligence features, and a fresh iPhone interface
Apple’s next major iPhone update is already shaping up to be one of the company’s most ambitious software releases in years. Although WWDC is usually where Apple saves its biggest surprises, recent leaks have offered an early look at what iOS 27 may bring, including a redesigned interface, a dedicated Siri app, deeper Apple Intelligence features, and major upgrades across core iPhone apps.
The biggest highlight is the new Siri experience. Instead of being only a voice assistant that appears when summoned, Siri is expected to become a more visible and powerful part of iOS 27. Reports suggest Apple is preparing a dedicated Siri app where users can view recent conversations, manage interactions, and benefit from a privacy-focused setting that automatically deletes older conversations.
This redesigned Siri is also expected to become far more capable. The assistant may be able to understand personal context, perform actions inside apps, summarize information, search the web, generate content, help with coding tasks, analyze files, and respond to complex requests that combine several commands at once. In simple terms, Apple appears to be turning Siri into a true AI assistant rather than a basic voice command tool.
One of the most interesting iOS 27 interface changes could be a new gesture tied to the Dynamic Island. Users may be able to swipe down from the top of the screen to open an AI-powered “Search or Ask” bar. From there, they could launch apps, send messages, check the weather, create calendar events, search notes, activate shortcuts, or search the web using Apple’s AI-driven search tools.
The search bar may also support a long-press option that allows users to switch between different AI models powering the new multimodal Siri. This suggests Apple may give users more flexibility in how Siri responds, depending on the task.
Apple is also reportedly working on a redesigned Camera app for iOS 27. The new Camera experience may include more customization options and separate widgets for different camera modes, making it easier for users to quickly access the tools they use most often.
Safari is expected to receive a refreshed Start Page with four dedicated sections for favorites, bookmarks, reading list, and browsing history. This could make Apple’s browser feel more organized and faster to navigate, especially for users who rely heavily on Safari across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The Weather app may also get a small but useful upgrade with a new “Conditions” panel on the main page. This would likely give users a clearer snapshot of current weather details without requiring extra taps.
Another major upgrade appears to be coming to Image Playground. The app may gain a “describe a change” option, allowing users to edit generated images through text prompts. Apple is also said to be improving image realism, making AI-generated results look more natural. Photos is another app expected to gain new Apple Intelligence tools. A dedicated “Apple Intelligence Tools” section in Photos for iOS 27 and macOS 27 may introduce three features called Extend, Enhance, and Reframe. These tools could help users expand images, improve photo quality, and adjust framing with AI assistance.
Behind the scenes, Apple’s AI strategy appears to be evolving quickly. Reports suggest the new Siri chatbot may rely partly on Google’s cloud infrastructure and specialized AI hardware, while Apple continues to emphasize privacy protections. Apple is said to be using a large Gemini-based model to train a smaller model that can run directly on Apple devices, a technique known as model distillation.
This local processing approach could help Apple deliver smarter AI features while keeping more user data on-device. However, because the largest AI models are extremely demanding, some Siri requests may still be processed in the cloud. Apple is reportedly exploring ways to keep those cloud-based AI tasks private, including encrypted processing and continued use of its Private Cloud Compute branding.
The new Siri may also be able to understand what is currently on a user’s screen. If implemented, this would allow Siri to respond based on open windows, visible content, and active apps. For example, a user could ask Siri to summarize what is on screen, adjust a setting, extract information from a document, or complete multiple related actions in a single request.
