Apple’s M3 Ultra chipset, boasting a 32-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, has made waves with its impressive performance. However, the tech giant isn’t slowing down. Reports indicate that Apple’s upcoming silicon will escalate these capabilities, potentially offering up to six times the core count of the M3 Ultra.
As of now, the M6 and M7 are said to be in development under the codenames ‘Komodo’ and ‘Borneo,’ respectively. In addition, a mysterious new chip, codenamed ‘Sorta,’ is also in the works. While it’s not yet clear if ‘Sorta’ will become the M8 or serve a different purpose, it’s evident that Apple is pushing boundaries.
Later this year, Apple is expected to unveil the M5, which will likely power the refreshed 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. Despite this upcoming release, Apple continues to forge ahead, ensuring it remains at the cutting edge of technology. Reports suggest that Apple is exploring in-house solutions with two, four, or even six times the cores of the M3 Ultra, promising remarkable enhancements in computing power and AI performance.
While it’s typical for Apple to work on future developments years in advance, this ambition signals their intent to sustain a competitive edge over rivals, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite posing a notable challenge. With the success of the M4 series, Apple aims to continue its lead in the tech space.
