Apple iPhone Duo Officially Unveiled With Foldable Design, Dual Displays, A20 Pro Chip, and $1,999 Price
After months of intense rumors and anticipation, Apple has officially introduced its first foldable iPhone: the iPhone Duo. The new device represents one of the biggest design changes in iPhone history, combining a book-style folding form factor with two displays, advanced camera features, powerful AI tools, and a premium titanium build.
Starting at $1,999, the iPhone Duo is positioned as a high-end flagship aimed at users who want a phone that can transform into a larger screen experience for productivity, entertainment, photography, and multitasking.
The highlight of the iPhone Duo is its foldable display system. When opened, the device reveals a large 7.6-inch inner display, making it the biggest screen ever offered on an iPhone. Apple designed this expansive panel for immersive video streaming, console-like mobile gaming, split-screen multitasking, and creative workflows.
The inner display also features a special nano-texture finish created to reduce glare and improve visibility in bright environments. This should make the iPhone Duo more comfortable to use outdoors or under strong indoor lighting, especially when watching content or editing photos and videos.
When folded, the iPhone Duo uses a 5.4-inch outer display, giving users a more compact and pocket-friendly experience. Apple says the outer screen retains 90 percent of the active screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, making it useful for everyday tasks such as messaging, calls, notifications, selfies, maps, and quick app access.
To keep the experience smooth between both displays, Apple gave the inner and outer screens the same aspect ratio. That means apps, videos, games, and documents can scale naturally when switching from folded to unfolded mode, helping maintain visual continuity without awkward resizing.
The iPhone Duo adopts a book-style folding design, similar to a compact device that opens into a mini tablet. When fully unfolded, Apple says it is the thinnest iPhone ever made. Despite the slim profile, the company has focused heavily on durability.
At the center of the design is a precision-engineered 3D-printed hinge made from more than 100 components. The hinge uses a contrasting micro-blasted finish and is designed to deliver a smooth, satisfying folding motion. Apple has also used grade-5 titanium for the outer body, polished to a mirror-like finish for a more premium appearance.
The iPhone Duo will be available in two colors: star white and night sky. Another notable design change is the return of Touch ID, now integrated into the side button for quick authentication.
Powering the iPhone Duo is Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip. The processor is built to handle the demands of a foldable dual-screen device, including advanced multitasking, high-resolution gaming, AI features, video capture, and professional-grade apps.
To maintain performance over longer sessions, the iPhone Duo includes an advanced thermal management system. A custom vapor chamber works alongside the A20 Pro chip to help control heat and support sustained performance, especially when using the large inner display for gaming, video editing, or productivity tasks.
Battery life is another major focus of the iPhone Duo. Apple has used a dual-battery architecture to make the most of the foldable internal layout. Combined with the efficiency of the A20 Pro chip, the device is designed to deliver all-day battery life.
Apple rates the iPhone Duo for up to 24 hours of general battery life. For video playback, the outer display can reach up to 44 hours, while the larger inner display offers up to 31 hours. That gives users flexibility depending on whether they want maximum endurance in folded mode or a larger viewing experience in unfolded mode.
The camera system on the iPhone Duo is built around flexibility. Because the phone has both an outer screen and a large inner display, Apple has added multiple camera options for selfies, video calls, rear-camera previews, and high-resolution photography.
The cover display includes a 12MP camera for quick selfies and video calls when the phone is folded. On the inside, Apple has placed a 12MP under-display FaceTime camera beneath the 7.6-inch screen, allowing users to make video calls on the larger display without a visible camera cutout disrupting the viewing area.
On the rear, the iPhone Duo features a 48MP Fusion Main Camera. It captures full-resolution 48MP images with zero shutter lag and includes sensor-shift optical image stabilization, a large sensor, and a fast aperture for improved low-light photography. The main camera also supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision.
The second rear camera is a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide Camera. It uses a high-resolution sensor for wide landscape shots, group photos, architecture, and macro photography. Apple also uses the center of the 48MP main sensor to provide lossless 2x optical-quality zoom, giving users more framing options without needing an additional dedicated telephoto lens.
Apple is also introducing new camera features designed specifically for the foldable iPhone format.
Smart Take uses on-device AI powered by the A20 Pro chip to analyze a scene in real time and automatically capture a photo when people are posed and ready. This is designed to help users get into group shots without rushing to beat a timer.
Users can also take selfies using the higher-quality rear cameras while previewing the shot on the outer display. This makes it easier to capture sharper selfies, portraits, and videos with the best camera hardware on the phone.
Duo Preview displays a live camera preview on the outer screen so the subject can see framing, adjust their pose, and help guide the shot before the photo is taken.
Kid Cue is designed for photographing children. It plays Peanuts animations on the outer display to catch a child’s attention and encourage them to look toward the camera.
Duo FaceTime allows people near the user to join a video call through the outer display, making it easier for a group to participate without squeezing around one screen.
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, a version of Apple’s mobile operating system redesigned for the foldable experience. The software keeps the familiar iPhone interface while adapting to different ways users can hold, fold, and unfold the device.
Apps can shift between the compact outer screen and the larger inner display, creating a more flexible experience for messaging, browsing, video calls, entertainment, and productivity. The larger display is especially useful for multitasking, giving users more room to view content and interact with apps.
Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into iOS 27 on the iPhone Duo. Siri AI and other on-device intelligence features are designed to understand personal context, provide proactive assistance, and process sensitive information securely on the device whenever possible.
The iPhone Duo also includes an eSIM, Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and the C2 cellular modem chip. These upgrades are aimed at improving wireless performance, connection stability, and overall efficiency.
Pricing starts at $1,999, or $83.29 per month over 24 months. Pre-orders begin on October 16, with in-store availability scheduled for October 23.
