Today, Apple has taken a significant step forward by releasing the first release candidate build of its much-anticipated iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, macOS 15, and other updates. This release comes hot on the heels of Apple’s recent announcement of the iPhone 16 lineup and the Apple Watch Series 10. Both new product lines offer substantial upgrades over their predecessors.
The new operating systems were made available to developers, and Apple has confirmed that the final version of iOS 18 will be rolled out to the general public on September 16. This update will be compatible with all iPhone models from the iPhone XR onward. Developers now have an excellent opportunity to experience iOS 18 firsthand before the public release.
To try out the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 release candidate builds, developers can navigate to the Settings app on their compatible iPhone or iPad. Ensure your Apple ID is linked to your Developer Account, then head to General > Software Update > Beta Updates to download and install the latest build over the air.
For those using an Apple Watch, the watchOS 11 release candidate can be accessed through the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Navigate to General > Software Updates > Beta Updates and follow the prompts to get the update.
Mac users can get the macOS 15 release candidate build via the Software Update section in System Settings. Again, an Apple ID associated with a Developer Account is necessary to receive this update.
For the Vision Pro headset, developers can download the visionOS 2 release candidate build through the Settings app. Opting into the Beta Updates will allow the update to be installed on your device. Similarly, for Apple TV users, the tvOS 18 release candidate build is available in the Settings app. If automatic updates are enabled, the update will install automatically.
There are many exciting details available about the new iPhone 16 Pro, and we have in-depth coverage of the event, discussing all the features and technologies that Apple didn’t announce on stage. Stay tuned for comprehensive insights and updates.
