Apple Temporarily Closes UAE Stores as Regional Turmoil Intensifies

Rising regional tensions have rapidly escalated into a serious security situation across parts of the Middle East, and the ripple effects are now being felt by major retailers on the ground. In the UAE, Apple Stores have temporarily closed as authorities urge businesses to reduce outdoor worker exposure and shift operations away from public spaces.

According to guidance issued by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, private-sector establishments have been asked to take necessary measures to avoid the presence of workers in open areas, including adopting remote work schedules. The advisory is currently set to remain in effect until Tuesday, March 03.

In response, Apple has shut down its stores across the UAE, including three locations in Abu Dhabi and two in Dubai. Notably, the Apple Store at Dubai Mall near the Burj Khalifa is displaying a message saying it is “closed until further notice,” signaling that the pause could extend beyond the initial advisory window depending on how conditions develop.

The closures come as disruption spreads beyond retail. Reports indicate an incident at Dubai’s Jebel Ali port, where fire broke out at berths after drone debris fell into the area. In addition, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been affected, intensifying concerns about broader supply chain interruptions and regional economic impact.

For Apple, the timing adds another layer of complication. The company is preparing to reveal multiple new products in the coming days, including a widely anticipated low-cost MacBook, with announcements expected from Monday through Wednesday. That run is scheduled to lead into a hands-on “Apple Experience” event on March 04. With UAE stores closed and the wider situation still fluid, attention is now on whether these shutdowns remain localized and temporary, or if the operational impact expands further.

For customers in the UAE, the key takeaway is simple: Apple retail locations are not operating normally right now. Anyone planning in-store purchases, pickups, or Genius Bar appointments should expect delays until at least March 03, and potentially longer if closures are extended.
