Apple’s upcoming iPhone lineup is expected to arrive with a major silicon upgrade, and the latest rumors suggest the new A20 Pro could be one of the company’s most powerful mobile chips yet. Built on an advanced 2nm process, the A20 Pro is shaping up to deliver big gains in CPU speed, graphics performance, memory bandwidth, and on-device AI capabilities.

According to newly shared details from a Weibo leaker, the A20 Pro may keep the same 6-core CPU layout as the A19 Pro, but Apple appears to be pushing clock speeds much higher. The chip is rumored to include two performance cores running at up to 4.90GHz, paired with four efficiency cores operating at 2.60GHz. If accurate, that would give the next iPhone chip a noticeable boost in both demanding apps and everyday responsiveness.

The GPU could be another major highlight. For the first time, Apple is rumored to be preparing a 7-core graphics setup for an iPhone system-on-chip. Each GPU core is said to run at 1.60GHz, which could make the A20 Pro especially appealing for mobile gaming, high-resolution video editing, augmented reality apps, and other graphics-heavy workloads. Apple has already been pushing console-style gaming on iPhone, and this kind of GPU upgrade would fit that strategy well.

AI performance may also see a huge leap. The A20 Pro is rumored to replace the older 16-core Neural Engine design with a 32-core configuration capable of more than 80 TOPS. That could significantly improve on-device artificial intelligence tasks such as image processing, voice recognition, generative AI features, real-time translation, and smarter camera functions. With more AI features moving directly onto devices instead of relying only on the cloud, this upgrade could become one of the most important parts of the chip.

Cache improvements are also expected. The two performance cores are said to share 16MB of cache, while the four efficiency cores may include 8MB of cache. Earlier leaks suggested this could be L2 cache, though that detail has not been officially confirmed. The A20 Pro is also rumored to feature 36MB of system-level cache, up from 32MB on the A19 Pro. A larger cache can help reduce delays when the chip accesses frequently used data, improving speed and efficiency across apps, games, and multitasking.

Memory bandwidth could be another area where Apple makes a meaningful upgrade. Rather than moving to LPDDR6 memory, the A20 Pro is expected to continue using LPDDR5X RAM. However, Apple may increase the memory bus width from 64-bit on the A19 Pro to 96-bit on the A20 Pro. That change could raise bandwidth to 115.2GB/s with transfer speeds of 9,600MT/s.

If the rumor is correct, the A20 Pro would offer a 50 percent increase in memory bandwidth compared with the A19 Pro. That is a substantial jump and could help the iPhone handle heavier workloads more smoothly, especially in areas such as AI processing, advanced camera features, professional video capture, and high-end gaming.

The combination of a 2nm manufacturing process, faster CPU cores, a larger GPU, expanded Neural Engine, bigger cache, and wider memory bus suggests that the A20 Pro may be more than a routine annual upgrade. It could represent a major step forward for Apple’s mobile chip strategy, bringing iPhone performance closer to what users expect from lightweight laptops and tablets.

As always, these specifications should be treated as unofficial until Apple confirms the details on stage.
