Google is shaking things up once more by planning an early release for Android 16, breaking away from its usual schedule. Traditionally, major Android updates roll out in late summer or early fall, but a recent report reveals Google’s intention to launch Android 16 on June 3, 2025, marking a shift from the norm.
The early release aims to provide manufacturers with ample time to prepare their customized Android skins ahead of critical device launches later in the year. Companies like Samsung, which introduces its flagship Galaxy S series early in the year, benefit from having the latest software ready. Similarly, other major brands like Xiaomi are keen to have their flagship models updated promptly.
While Android 16 will eventually reach all manufacturers, Pixel phones and tablets will receive it first. If you own a compatible Pixel device, you can download the update over-the-air via the Settings app starting next Tuesday.
The update promises a host of enhancements and new features. Lock Screen widgets are making a return, empowering users to customize their screens for improved productivity.
