Anbernic’s Next Retro Handheld Promises a Major Charging Upgrade Over Previous Models

A new Anbernic retro handheld appears to be on the way, and a fresh image has finally cleared up one of the biggest early questions: its name. After an earlier, heavily pixelated tease left people guessing, a newer, clearer photo shared on the Open Source Handheld Game Forum makes it easy to read the branding. The device is called the RG Rotate.

That same image also reveals some key battery and charging details that retro handheld fans will want to know before getting too excited. The RG Rotate is listed with a 3.8V battery rated at 2,000 mAh typical capacity. Interestingly, that’s a smaller battery than what’s found in the RG34XX SP and RG35XX SP, which could raise eyebrows for anyone hoping for marathon play sessions.

However, the charging specs may be where the RG Rotate strikes back. The handheld is shown supporting 10 W charging at 5V/2A. That’s important because it suggests the RG Rotate should avoid the frustrating charging limitations seen on some of Anbernic’s more budget-friendly models, which top out at 5V/1.5A and can be pickier about chargers.

In other words, while the RG Rotate’s battery capacity looks modest on paper, its faster, more capable charging support could make day-to-day use smoother—especially for players who like to top up quickly and get back to gaming without hassle.
