AMD’s Zen 6 Ryzen Lineup Takes Shape: Olympic Ridge and Medusa CPUs Confirmed for AM5 and FP10

AMD Confirms Zen 6 Ryzen CPUs for Desktop and Mobile, Including Olympic Ridge and Medusa

AMD has officially confirmed its next generation of Ryzen processors based on the Zen 6 architecture, giving PC builders and laptop buyers an early look at what is coming after the current Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen AI families. The new Zen 6 lineup includes desktop and mobile chips under the Olympic Ridge and Medusa names, with support planned for existing and future AM5 platforms.

For desktop users, the biggest news is that AMD’s AM5 socket still has a long road ahead. The company is preparing two Zen 6-based Ryzen families for AM5: Olympic Ridge and Medusa1. This means users who invested in AM5 motherboards may have another major upgrade path without needing to move to a completely new platform.

Olympic Ridge is expected to be AMD’s main Zen 6 desktop CPU lineup. These processors will target high-performance gaming PCs, enthusiast systems, and mainstream desktops. They are set to replace the Ryzen 9000 series, which is based on Zen 5.

One of the most important upgrades rumored for Olympic Ridge is a higher core count. The lineup could offer up to 24 cores and 48 threads, thanks to new chiplets reportedly featuring up to 12 Zen 6 cores each. That would be a significant jump from the current Ryzen 9000 desktop family, which tops out at 16 cores and 32 threads.

AMD is also expected to focus on higher clock speeds and larger cache configurations. Like previous generations, 3D V-Cache models are likely to be part of the lineup, making Zen 6 especially interesting for gamers. AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology has already proven highly effective in gaming workloads, and an updated Zen 6 version could deliver another strong performance leap.

Power ratings have not been officially detailed yet, but Olympic Ridge chips are expected to remain in a similar range to current Ryzen desktop processors. That likely means models could scale from around 65 watts to 170 watts, depending on the segment and performance tier.

Alongside Olympic Ridge, AMD is also preparing Medusa1 for the AM5 platform. Unlike Olympic Ridge, Medusa1 will be an APU family, combining Zen 6 CPU cores with upgraded integrated graphics. These chips are expected to succeed the Ryzen 8000G series, which brought strong integrated graphics performance to AM5 desktops.

Medusa1 APUs could be especially appealing for compact PCs, budget gaming systems, office desktops, and users who want solid graphics performance without a dedicated GPU. With Zen 6 CPU cores and improved iGPU technology, these APUs may offer a major uplift in both processing and graphics performance.

The Zen 6 desktop family is also expected to bring AMD into a new manufacturing era. Current information points to a 2nm-class process for Zen 6 Ryzen chips, though final specifications may vary by product. If accurate, this would help improve performance, efficiency, and transistor density compared to Zen 5.

AMD’s desktop Ryzen roadmap has evolved significantly over the years. The company started with 8-core Zen 1 CPUs on AM4 in 2017, moved to 16-core Zen 2 and Zen 3 designs, transitioned to AM5 with Zen 4, and then introduced Zen 5 with Ryzen 9000. Zen 6 could push desktop Ryzen even further with up to 24 cores on AM5, DDR5 memory support, and updated platform features.

On the mobile side, AMD is preparing multiple Zen 6 families as well. The company has confirmed Medusa1 and Medusa2 for the FP10 platform, while another high-end mobile family known as Medusa Halo is also expected.

Medusa1, also referred to as Medusa Point 1, will serve as the standard Zen 6 mobile offering. It is expected to scale up to 22 cores, making it a major upgrade over current mobile Ryzen chips. This could give AMD a stronger position in high-performance laptops, creator notebooks, and premium productivity machines.

Medusa2, or Medusa Point 2, appears to be designed for more power-efficient and entry-level devices. These chips will likely focus on battery life, thinner laptop designs, and balanced everyday performance. If AMD can combine Zen 6 efficiency with improved integrated graphics, Medusa2 could become an important option for mainstream laptops.

Medusa Halo is expected to target the upper end of the mobile market. This family is said to include new RDNA-based graphics cores, giving laptops a stronger blend of CPU and GPU performance. Some reports suggest certain Medusa chips may use RDNA 4m graphics, which could bring a noticeable boost in gaming, AI, and creative workloads.

For laptop users, Zen 6 could be one of AMD’s most important mobile upgrades yet. Higher core counts, stronger graphics, better power efficiency, and newer platform capabilities would help the company compete aggressively in gaming laptops, workstations, premium ultrabooks, and AI-focused PCs.
