OptiScaler Team Brings FSR 4.1.1b to AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPUs With a Simple DLL Swap
AMD Radeon RX 6000 owners may not have to wait for official RDNA 2 support to experience the latest FSR 4.1.1b improvements. The OptiScaler developer team has prepared a modified DLL file that allows older Radeon GPUs to run FSR 4.1.1b unofficially, making the process much easier than before.
AMD’s newer INT8-based FSR 4.1 upscaling technology is expected to arrive officially for Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards at a later date. Until then, PC modders have already found a way to enable it on RDNA 2 hardware. Previously, users had to rely on OptiScaler and go through a more involved setup process to make FSR 4.1 work on unsupported GPUs. Now, the latest FSR 4.1.1b implementation makes the process far more straightforward.
Instead of using the full OptiScaler utility, users can now place a modified FSR DLL file directly into a supported game’s installation folder. The usual method involves navigating to the game’s Binaries > Win64 folder and replacing the original FSR upscaler file named amd_fidelityfx_upscaler_dx12.dll.
For anyone who wants to keep the original file as a backup, it can be renamed to amd_fidelityfx_upscaler_dx12.old before copying over the new DLL. After that, launching the game should activate FSR 4.1.1b automatically without requiring extra configuration steps.
According to the release details, this modified FSR 4.1.1b DLL bypasses the INT8 hardware check, which is what allows it to run on Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs. That makes the upgrade much closer to a plug-and-play solution for users who are comfortable modifying game files.
The biggest reported benefit of FSR 4.1.1b is improved image stability. Compared with earlier builds such as FSR 4.0.2c, the newer version appears to reduce shimmering and ghosting, two visual issues that can become distracting during movement. For players using Radeon RX 6000 cards, this could make supported games look cleaner and more consistent, especially at higher resolutions.
Community testing has shown FSR 4.1.1b running on RDNA 2 GPUs in several games, with side-by-side comparisons against FSR 4.0.2c. Early impressions suggest that the visual improvements are more noticeable than the raw performance gains. In testing at 1440p using the Balanced preset, the newer version reportedly delivered around a 2% to 3% performance improvement compared with FSR 4.0.2c.
That performance increase is not dramatic, but the real advantage appears to be better image quality. Reduced ghosting, less shimmer, and more stable visuals can make gameplay feel smoother even when frame rates do not rise by much. For Radeon RX 6000 users, this is a welcome upgrade, especially since the hardware is not officially supported for this version yet.
There is one important warning: using modified DLL files is not recommended in online multiplayer games, especially titles that include anti-cheat systems. Replacing game files can trigger anti-cheat detection and may lead to account penalties or bans. This method is best limited to single-player games or offline testing where file modifications are less risky.
The arrival of FSR 4.1.1b on Radeon RX 6000 GPUs highlights how active the PC gaming modding community remains. While official support may still be some time away, enthusiasts are already finding ways to bring newer upscaling features to older hardware.
For now, Radeon RX 6000 owners who enjoy experimenting with graphics upgrades have a much simpler path to test FSR 4.1.1b. It may not deliver a massive frame-rate boost, but the cleaner image quality and easier installation make it an exciting option for RDNA 2 users looking to get more life out of their GPUs.
